I'd just like to say that Gateway support is so much fail. I needed a new keyboard and battery, so I asked them where I could get one. I got a quick reply of a website, but then found out they did not carry the parts. I then get another reply of Gateway's own parts system, but it is expensive!
$60 whole dollars just to talk to Gateway?!?!? And I then need to pay for my parts?!? We aren't all made of money, especially in these economic conditions.

Now, where do I go about buying these parts...

Fee based support after a warranty is standard across the industry. There is a meaning to "out of warranty".

Most people in your situation would start checking out eBay for spare parts, or to find a non-functional version of the laptop to get spare parts from.

A few different sites sell gateway parts. When i get back to my laptop i'll look them up for you. There are a few listed with in this subforum as well that a couple of different people have found.
None of them are exactly cheap though.

    @-L1GHTGAM3R-
no idea. Sometimes gateway will just send you stuff, and sometimes not. Its really according to who you speak with there.

Ah, I've never had anything go wrong out of warranty before. I'd just figured I'd have to pay for my parts, not for the parts and a fee for the support.

I've searched eBay and there are a few keyboards on there. Not cheap, but cheaper than what Gateway wants to pay. Oddly enough, after a few cycles of the battery, it works fine. Edit: Apparently it isn't fixed. It just died a few minutes after I posted this reply. Seems to be getting longer life, though.

For all these high prices you may just be better off buying a cheap refurb of a 6831FX(its what you have right?) and be able to frankenstein whatever is needed

All you really need to do is call in, get a rep, and when they say you are out of warrenty and need to pay for support, just say "I don't need support i have verified the problem already and need to buy replacement parts from you" and you should be fine. If they still say no ask for a manager

Well, I don't think I'll be buying another laptop for spares, as I don't think I'll be needing that many parts after this accident. Just a keyboard and possible a battery.

I may try and talk to Gateway directly to see what they say, but I might as well just go on eBay since there are keyboards there. I will be taking on these fixes after school is over, so I still have a little under a month to live with these small problems.

Thanks for that link. I've searched around parts websites and on eBay, and eBay seems to be the cheapest. I've repaired my keyboard problem by myself using super gluing the key mechanism so it works again.

Batteries are cheaper by almost half on eBay, so I'll have to look around to see which are OEM. I'm not in a huge rush anymore, as I'm going on a trip in 5 days, so all my issues will have to be dealt with after that.
