They're starting to sell it... but you have to wait till May 14th before it'll start to ship...

I really think Gateway needs to streamline their supply chain better... especially when Montevina will be right around the corner... most gamers (and everyone else) wants instant gratification... and they're probably losing potential customers by being sold out all the time!

That being said... I'm still waiting for my P171X-FX to be shipped out... :\ It would be a pleasant surprise if it was a P172X-FX they shipped out to me but I'm not holding my breath and I really don't want to wait another month...

I'm just wondering, the places that get the laptops for reviews, do they just manufacture a couple and send it out to reviews sites to review instead of getting their supply up...? Just can't believe I would have to wait more than a month to get the next shipment! :(

Oh, it still costs $1999, I forgot to uncheck those checkboxes for Norton, Microsoft Office Student Home and the 3 year warranty... ;)

The base configuration costs $1999 if you uncheck those checkboxes... unless you're adding in the tax and the shipping and the 10% discount I hear they're giving out now then yes it is over $2000.

yea exactly.. I noticed how they dont have anything about p 172s fx how come? Im guessing it would have the same specs as the supposed 6860fx right? Meaning no more 6860fx just 172s ..

Most likely because they still have stock of them, meaning the P171S FXs, as it says while supplies last.

the 6860fx would be their retail version for BB meaning they WONT be discontinuing it.. and the P172s FX will be a Gateway only offering.. As for specifications they cant be too far off considering the 6860FX is to go for $1349.99...

Something I don't get - why does it have 4 gigs of RAM but it still has 32bit Vista? Just for the future, I guess?

dconn52, Gateway probably added 4gb of ram because they read this forum, and see all of us adding 4gb ;) or maybe the dual memory works better with 4gb instead of 3?

I really don't know what you're trying to say at least in most or all of your posts. You said

    In which I replied

Meaning that the reason why they don't have anything about the P172S FX probably because they STILL HAVE THE P171S FX IN STOCK! WHILE SUPPLIES LASTS! Now which says "Limited quantities available!". I don't know how you came putting words in my mouth saying that it is being discontinued.

Also, I don't understand where the "yea exactly" is referring to unless you're referring from my post that with the discount tax and shipping it might come out to more than $2000, but which some people might be getting it for less than $2000.

LOL.. what I meant to say was that I acknowledged the fact that they might have limited quantites of the 171s FX so they are selling those off.. As for the 68xx I realized after that its their retail only version meaning for BB only.. This would in turn mean they wouldnt discontinue the 6860FX because its meant for BB whereas the 172s FX will be sold by themselves.. Oh and the >$2000 was supposed to be with shipping and taxes .. Which you might essentially save if you have luck with a good rep at Gateway.
