I'm getting a Gateway FX very soon and i've been offered a good price on a X7800 but it will only seem suck good value (£140, is this a good price?) if it'll run at 3ghz.
I know that the X9000 in the gateway will run at 3ghz as will the X7900, the X7800 does have the available multi to run at 3ghz (which it will run in ASUS laptops) but with the gateway the X9000 does run at 3.2ghz in other laptops so i guess the question is,
Does the Gateway FX only allow one extra multi from std or does it just offer a max mutli of 15 for all unlocked CPU's (i.e. X series).

x7900 is $400 CDN shipped worldwide on eBay and runs 3.0 Ghz for sure.
why not spend a few more pounds and get the sure thing. -
the X7900 does not seem good value to me, i mean i can get it for ~£180 but the X9000 is available for less than £250 if you find the right auction. Also if i found out the X7800 was also capable of 3ghz it would annoy me that i would have spent the extra money on the X7900 and got nothing for it.
Anyone else? -
Got my answer Sale of FX laptop with X7800 @ 3ghz.
On a more important note it would mean that anyone upgrading to a X7900 you are waisting your money over a X7800 as the bios seems to limit the overclock to a 15x multi. Also very happy at saving ~£100 for 5% of extra performance i would have got with the X9000 (apart from in sse4 apps where it will kill my X7800).
Anyway hope this helps someone else, i will also post a thread to confirm once i've recieved the laptop and the processor (and have time available, currently doing my final's at the moment). -
so you can OC the x7800 to 3.0ghz? can you oc the x9000 to 3.2 in these gateawys?
I want to upgrade to a extreme cpu and get the best value too. -
from what i've read, the max you can overclock to is 3ghz (in the Gateway's that it), which makes the X7800 really good value at the moment, although you do loses some battery life over the x9000.

x9000 full power and gaming you get about 1 hr and 10 to 30 minutes.
x9000 on power saving mode and not gaming.... get close to 3 hours
can not over clock past 3.0ghz... hope gateway gives us a patch for it later this year...
this chip can do at least 3.4 in the right rig. -
The P-6831 fx is now $1,199.99 at best buy
