Alright, i overlooked the thermal pad over the gpu on the Gateway P-6831FX model when upgrading to a t9300. I ran the 3dmark and the computer turned off. so i thought the cpu was installed incorrectly so i applied the artic silver over the cpu again, and followed through again...the same thing happened...
so i noticed that the gpu thermal pad was all rolled up?

does anyone know how thick the crap is? I'm guessing a 1mm.

should i play around with it or just return it to bbuy, and unfortunately lose 15% (after reinstalling the old cpu and sticking some bootleg thermal pad)? I still want the system so i would be losing over 200 dollars.

it doesnt look like the gpu was damaged or burned or anything.

    thanks.

WhenI upgraded my processor I looked at the cheap crap they put on the chip and mine was just like yours all rolled up so I went in and peeled it off and put a dab of Artic Silver on there and I have not had any problems with it. I notice when I am gaming that it does blow out some heat I put my hand near the vent and it was very warm to the touch. But I have not had any problems with it shutting down it has been working great. I upgraded mine to the T8300 though when I went on Newegg to order it I did not see the T9300's.But the T8300 has a very noticable performance difference from the stock setup my overall rating jumped up to a 5.1 from a 4.5 ;)

The vent/fan on the back is cooling the CPU / Northbridge .. The vent/fan on the left is cooling the GPU . That thermal pad your talking about is for the "Northbridge" ..Not the gpu
When I changed my cpu the thermal pad stayed in place ,, I was lucky ... I was going to change it but ( like you ) have no idea how thick it is ...

Yes I put GPU in my post I apologize for the error but yes I went ahead and put some artic silver on mine because my thermal pad was all rolled up like the original poster but so far I have not had any issues with it overheating. It usually cools down after a little bit.
