    According to this article, it confirms Toshiba is about to drop out. I'm glad I held off until a standard was set.

    Can any of you upgrading confirm if the PM965 Refresh supports DDR800 to speed on it's own or at least if used with an 800FSB CPU installed. Will it keep it as 1:1?

    Who has reinstalled XP x86 or x64 and using an add in PCI-E Audio card?

    FX don't support DDR800. I think you mean DDR2-800. In that case, yes, it will work but the PM965 only support upto DDR2-667. Therefore, DDR2-800 will be underclock to 667mhz. Since CPU T5450 runs at 333mhz FSB CLOCK, Ratio is kept at RAM:FSB 2:1 at stock settings.

    Yes of corse, I was referring to PC2-6400 RAM to run at rated speed. I knew the specs or limitations for PM965 in general, but was asking about the "Refresh" version which is this or any model modded to accept the Penryn core.

    So in this case, is there any "Refresh version of PM965 utilizing 80MHz RAM frequency? If this is the case, then I may as well just wait till G35 mobile so I can make use of my OCZ DDR800.

    Ok, I'm half tempted to return my new laptop I just bought for this. Let me know if I'm crazy:

    HP Pavilion dv6700t customizable Notebook PC

    * Upgrade to Genuine Windows Vista Business (32-bit)
    * Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.50 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    * 15.4" WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
    * 50% OFF Upgrade to 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)!!
    * 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS - For Core 2 Duo Processors
    * HP Imprint Finish (Radiance) + Fingerprint Reader + Microphone
    * Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
    * FREE Upgrade to 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive from 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive!!
    * SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    * High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

    I got the laptop for $977. I won't be using it to play high end games because I have a 360 although I do play PC games if they exclusive to PC like Crysis.

    Also, does anyone know if my vid card has an HDMI port?

    Above system looks pretty good with a fast processor. FX is a gaming machine. Unless you are playing games, which you stated you were not going to be playing latest game, I would just keep the HP. HP is also smaller so more mobile. 17" FX is bigger and heavier. But you are being ironical saying you wanted to play high end games like Crysis...

    So, it comes down to big and fast that can play everything at $300 more. Or smaller and slower but with a fast processor.

    Didn't mean to be ironic. I played Crysis already on my PC which only has 3800+. I plan on using this laptop for basically everyday use. I want to hook it up to my 42" LG LCD. I'm still contemplating buying the Gateway, but I might just wait because I need a new desktop PC. So probably just wait a couple months then build/buy something new.

    It's not fair to say the other (HP) is just slower. If you were not gaming , like he said, and or but editing video or music, the 8800-M GT will not matter much and work would be the same, only if comparing on same ICH8R AHCI controller. Vista is also not hat fast in performance for current A/V software since it is not really optimized for it, especially the Adobe Creative suites.

    I'm a student studyin in the US, but have to go back to India this June. The only thing stopping me from buying this laptop is the reliability of the brand. Gateway brand is not available in India (but Acer is), hence no support. Are gateway machines generally reliable? Please help me making this decision. Also my first post so don't know whether it is in the right thread!

    I am in the same boat as you. I have an Inspiron 9300, now about two and a half years old, and its screen just started acting real weird yesterday. Its been out of warranty for the better part of its life, and the Go6800 is really starting to show its age now. This deal on the 6831 is just sooo difficult to look away from, but the fact that Gateway don't have any presence in APAC makes it a little risky to own one here. Although the only problems that have been posted so far seem to be no-shows, the long-term reliability of the system remains to be seen. The trouble is, I don't have that much time since my 9300 wants me to turn into a mosquito to appreciate the screen (or whatever is left of it) as good-looking...

    You might actually be able to get support for your Gateway in Asia. They do have agents in some countries, check out the Gateway website and look it up.

    Before you do anything, I would call around to your local Best Buy locations and find out if they have any more in stock. We've already had at least 1 report of sellouts and I know the Best Buy I got mine at Monday morning only had 1 more left after my purchase. You wouldn't want to return the HP and then go to Best Buy and find they had no more in stock.

    as above....you can also order, select store pickup via zipcode and see several stores in you area. Keep changing the area code to get a hit.

    My area store still has two in stock...

    Well that's not going to be possible anymore since the BB website now says that the system will only be an In-Store item, not to be purchased over the internet.

    You can go to the store and if another store has it they can have that store ship it over.

    My internet and some things are running fairly slow on my new 6831. It takes around 1hr for me to download AIM from their site. Could someone help me with configuring this to make it overall faster?

    I made a recovery disk and reinstalled a clean version of Vista as well.

    Check following few things :

    - your home desktop internet speed
    - connect directly using LAN/wire to your router
    - for wireless, make sure you are connected to your home router NOT your neighbor's ultra slow connection <- I think this is your problem

    From my friends who had them opposed to Acer, I'd have to say YES, just as reliable but with more features.

    I can't speak for the notbooks myself, but Gateway has always been respectable in desktop for many years and I do still see servicable machines from the AMD Thunderbird and PIII days. Fairly upgradable in terms of most hardware over the years. Good motherboatrds, especially back then as they used ASUS OEM and if not intel OEM built by ASUS (then).

    SSID: linksys
    Speed: 1.0 Mbps
    Sent: 5,333,000

    I'm positive it is my connection.

    Given that your speed says 1 Mbps, yes, the connection (somewhere) is the problem. If your router is a 54G, you should be able to get a 54Mbps connection (meaning you are running 1/54th of your max possible speed).

    What model is your Linksys router?

    Definately problem with his wireless router.

    I get solid 54mbps anywhere in my house. Once in awhile, my wireless 'roams' and connects to my neighbors and I remember seeing 1mbps~ish connection.

    Getting a booster or new wireless router will help out.
