Well since people would rather make a new guide instead of contribute....I see no more need for this thread.

If you dont plan on using raid, you can go into the bios and turn sata from ahci to compatibility mode and that will allow you to install xp without any sort of additional f6 driver.

Desperate newbie needing the XP drivers for the P-6831FX. Most pressing is the VIdeo Drivers.

I have tried all day yesterday and all last night to find any driver that would work...to no avail. Did I miss some other thread that has already gone over this? If so, please post the link.

I appreciate ANY help or guidance.

I don't quite understand what the above link is showing... Care to explain?

Also, I have my XP disk on me right now, do I just put it in, boot up and install XP over Vista? What about the 10Gb back up partition they have, can I wipe that clean too?

And the Gateway restore disk will get my comp back to factory setting, correct?

The link is just what it says, you click it and you get the current video drivers that I'm using...as for the 10gb backup partition you can wipe it, but if you do so you will lose the ability to do a factory restore, unless you already made a backup the way the manual suggest. Please don't post back asking for a guide on how to make a backup of vista, thats not what this threads for.

I guess what I really wanted to get out of the post above is the procedure to install XP.

Do I just put in XP disk, turn it on, and delete the Vista partition and install a XP partition? Or does it do that automatically?

Sorry if I sound ridiculous, but I've never reformatted before...

I've been trying to install xp as my 2nd os but so far has been stumped, I've made a partition of 80gb via disk management from within vista, and whenever my xp disc loads, I will stall out with a blue screen telling me windows detected an error and has stopped the installation. I have tried to make a custom slipstreamed disc as bwhxeon showed and also tried to change the bios from ahci to compatibility, both resulting in the same error. Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

Good Evening bwhxeon (Mr. Uruhara) :p

I wanted to thank you for your guide, I have installed XP but it seems the sound on the right speaker comes in low or almost not at all where in Vista it's fine (so atleast I know its not a hardware issue).

Did you notice or encounter this when you still owned the laptop?

    Thanks in advance,
    Fred

Where did you find the Audio Drivers for this at? There are three .inf files different from those in the Gateway driver installer and I'd like to know if they're official from IDT or where I can find them mirrored.

I'm not asking for the driver...I was asking if it is something official from IDT where I could find a readme and more information on it. You usually don't distribute software without certain company contact info and/or an EULA.
