I bought the Gateway P-6831FX a week or so ago from Best Buy and it's been working great... until today. I hadn't turned it on in a day or so, so I can't pinpoint exactly when this problem occurred. Today I turned on the computer and I could hear it starting, although nothing was displaying. I tried the normal Fn-F4 to make sure the displays didn't somehow change and they didn't. Brightness isn't the issue... and I'm not sure what else to check.

I'm going to try an external monitor as soon as I free one up... anyone have any ideas?

Edit: Just hooked it up to my regular monitor and I can see a display... *sigh*. This is the second issue with laptops I've had in two weeks. First, HP sent me the wrong one and I had to deal with their disgustingly bad customer service in order to get a refund, and now this.

Best Buy is 2 hours away from me... but I guess there's nothing else to do if it's not working, eh? I was hoping that this wouldn't be a big deal :(.

Return it for a new one. You don't want problems with a week old computer.

I had this problem out of the blue. I was able to fix it by turning the laptop completely off, then turning it and shutting the clamshell right away. It started to boot and then turned off. Then I opened it up and turned it on and it worked great.
