The 7801u is actually cheaper than Best Buy's 7805u. For all you potential buyers, use Windows Live's Cashback program to save 12% on the $1300 7801u laptop.
Instructions:
1) Register account: https://cashbackaccount.search.live.com/cashback/welcome.aspx
2) Open Internet Explorer and go to http://www.live.com
3) Search "Tigerdirect"
4) There will be a link "Tigerdirect Official Site" with a faded brown background.
- Click on "Live Search cashback". There will be a coin next to the link.
5) Once you click, a popup should come up
Enter the email address you are using for your cashback account.
Enter the security code word.
6) The popup disappears after displaying "Your cashback is active"...
- Search "Gateway P-7801u" in TigerDirect's search box.
7) Submit your order. You will NOT see TigerDirect showing the discount since it's a third party discount.
8) You will soon receive an email from Windows Live stating that you saved ~$156. (The fine/small print may take up to 60 days but I got it within 10 minutes of purchase.)
I hope it helps.

Windows Live is offering only a 10% cashback now. I will not update this thread about the Live cashback discount from this point on since it varies from month to month.

Thank you! Just did it myself! I really appreciate it.
 -

Wow I wish I had a credit card to do this.
      -
 Don't mention it.
      -

Thanks for this, it seems like this is the way to go since you're guaranteed a WUXGA screen

edit: I noticed it now shows 10% cashback for TigerDirect's website. -

Thank you maskedformed. What display did you get in your 7801u: LG or AUO?
 -

You posted this the exact same day i received my laptop from tigerdirect ;P o well it doesn't hurt me much. xD
 -
I have yet to receive my laptop. I'll report it on Friday.
 -

Didnt mean to sound rude earlier, also i wanted to say thanks for posting this cause i never knew about the live cashback so now ill be keeping an eye out for there high % months. ^_^
Thanks MaskedFormed -
No offense taken. I'm glad it has helped you.
 -

now if only they would add NewEgg @_@
 -
Newegg is selling the 7801u >$1500. They had a major discount before and it was at the same price I bought it for ($1145).
 -

yea i know i didnt have the money back then lol
 -

Wanted to thank you again for this, and bump for anyone who missed it. Even with the reduced 10% cashback, saving on sales tax = WIN!!! It comes out to be cheaper than the 7805u, with a guaranteed high res screen

Any time. Not to sound snobbish but I'll gladly appreciate "rep points" since that's supposedly shows that I'm a reliable contributor on this forum.
 -
You know, I've been wondering about that.
I believe I tried to "rep" you on this a day or so ago, but don't know if it actually showed up.
How does one know?
(I know - I'm Off Topic. But still wondering.) -

Click the scale>type in little note>click "add reputation" button>a confirmation will appear stating something to the affect of "you have added rep to ghasd;lgj may one day you be lucky enough to get some in return" (not exact words but similar)
 -

Ah, OK, I've seen that before. Just wondering if you got any sort of confirmation that it went out?
I suppose it will show something else if you've already "rep"-ed someone in that topic? -

Don't worry about it. My account already has shown that you guys have "rep'd" me on this thread. Thanks. Have a nice day!
 -

I just picked up a P-7805 @ BestBuy, and it has a WUXGA screen. Just an FYI.
 -

Just wanted to say I got the deal and I'm happy ^_^
Thanks!
+repppppp -

Well, it looks like this item s no longer being sold-- Amazon, Tigerdirect, Newegg, none--
 -

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they have contractual obligations with BestBuy regarding the 7805u, and this may be causing them a problem meeting that obligation and producing additional 7801u's.
Maybe this is why we continue to see 5u's with 1920 x 1200 screens? -

This sounds like Gateway restricting the 78xx's to only the 7805u and the 7808u, which only have 1440x900 screens.
 -

Man.... I was too late, but still hoping it will pop up somewhere.
 -

I'm beginning to think that this is a marketing gimmick, to keep interest high on the 78XX series--
 -

Not at that price,
but at TigerDirect - Gateway FX P-7801u for $1299 again. -
Alright, it looks liked they replenished their stock. The discount right now is 5%, which means that you will pay $1,235.95 (incl. shipping).
I suggest that everyone buy this instead of wasting their time searching for a 1920x1200 7805u.
