]I just wanted to see how my 3dmark score stacked up against others. I'm also considering whether a cpu upgrade would be worth it or not.

    Core 2 Duo P8400
4GB RAM running at 533MHz for some reason
    9800m GTS 750/925/1700
    3DMark06 - 9355

Forgot to bring HWmonitor up in the screen shot but my min/max for my CPU was 25C/42C and my min/max for my GPU was 41C/65C

    That's good.

You can use a modified bios to unlock the 9x multiplier and get around 10k. AFAIK it is the highest you can get without hardware upgrade/modification. Flashing the modified bios is easy and I would recommend it if you want extra performance out of your stock cpu with little effort.

For the more experience user you can remove a resistor on the MB to overclock the stock CPU. A volt mod is necessary to reach higher frequencies. I have seen 11k 3dmark06 with a stock cpu with hw modifications. Very few people have done the hardware modifications, which speaks to the difficulty of the mod (ram timings will need to be changed too).

The thread on how to flash the modified bios as well as how to do the HW mod is here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/gateway-emachines/410967-has-anyone-successfully-overclocked-p7805u-cpu.html
The last ten or so pages of the thread are most relevant. I recommend browsing through it for ***s and giggles, if nothing else.

I haven't heard a single person regret putting an extreme processor in, although my system is completely stock. The x9100 can reach the upper 3ghz range.

I am tempted to get a x9100, but something about the 44W TDP always irks me. Its probably because I know that a solid PSU is extremely important in a desktop, and this little 120W power brick doesn't look like it could handle OC'ing. But after reading what you guys have said, I trust you about the x9100. I'm guessing I will need a modified bios in order to run the x9100 over 3GHz?

So if I'm looking at a x9100(3.06GHz-44W), a T9800(2.93GHz-35W), and a P9700(2.8GHz-28W), all for around the same price, you would recommend the x9100?

I'm really dying to know this as well, what type of real-world gaming performance increase would I see over my P8400?

I'm pretty serious FPS gamer, playing competitively in CS:S, BFBC2, CoD, and could really use a boost in the newer games. For reference I have to play BFBC2 on low settings to get a playable framerate that will still dip into the 20's on occasion. Black Ops I dont even want to talk about because the numbers fluctuate so much and sometimes I get better frames when I turn up the settings >.< On top of that the P8400 is under the min. requirements.

So you think it would benefit me? How much better should I expect BFBC2/CoD to run?

I just installed a T9900 and I'm finally pleased with my 7805u that I just purchased a couple of weeks ago. To say the processor is the bottleneck is an understatement. I can now max out most games with a respectable framerate. Running it OC'd to 3.2 without a problem. COD:BO is finally playable in MP.

Ah this is exactly what I wanted to hear.

You say COD:BO is finally playable in MP...what settings are you using and what frames are you getting? Any stuttering?

I've got about a 100 hours logged with the P8400, and I must say, its frustrating. Sometimes I get better frames when I turn the settings up more, its so unpredictable and annoying. I was hoping an upgrade would solve that.

I'll try to get some more details tomorrow. But yeah I had the same issues as you. Bare minimum settings or turned up high, framerates seemed the same!

My 3dmark06 score at 1440x900 was 11739 just now. That's not using throttle stop to OC to 3.2 and with the gpu at 700/1750/900

per the first screen shot you have the basic edition of 3DMark06. This means even though you see full screen the system is giving results for running at 1280x800 not 1440x900..............

I changed it to 1440x900. I have the registered version.

edit: I always run it at 1440x900 but doing so now keeps me right around 11k which makes me think that that run I did last night was at the default 1280x800.

That is about right, default on the x9100 at 3.2 gives me about the same, 11.700 or so. I can get it to the 12,000 + with 3.7 but it doesn't seem to do anything for the graphics end just the CPU end................

it's not THAT hard to max out the gpu. i play at 1920 though.

the inability to upgrade hardware and low resale value= me not putting a dollar into the machine.
especially for an expensive processor. unnecessary.

I paid $450 for the laptop on CL and it looks brand new. Bought the T9900 for $225 so that being said I don't know if there's a better gaming notebook out there for $675.

I was going to go with one of the Dell Outlet 15R's with the crap AMD cpu and a 5650 and upgrade the cpu to a Phenom II for roughly $125 and that'd be about $500 total, but I'm happy with my decision.

For a laptop though, It certainly has longevity. For laptop that was made in 2008, it hasn't given me any problems. The temps are still low all around, the GPU is still strong, and the only thing that is holding me back is the CPU. Not to mention the prices on the replacement CPU's are steadily going down on Ebay.

I don't think it's too bad of an idea to upgrade this beauty of a laptop. I still, to this day, consider it a good desktop replacement.
