Hi,
I have a Gateway P-7805u that I would like to restore to factory settings. I am having a problem. The computer originally came with Windows Vista and at the time of purchase I also received the option to upgrade to Windows 7 when it came out in the future. There were no recovery discs supplied, however, the hard drive has an 11Gb healthy recovery partition.
I used Computer Management to verify that there is indeed a Healthy Recovery Partition.
My problem is that I cannot figure out how to access it. I have tried F8 and F10 from the start up but the recovery process is controlled by Windows 7.
The options are Startup Repair, System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostic, and Command Prompt.
From the Advanced Recovery Methods the options are Use A System Image You Created Earlier To Recover Your Computer or Reinstall Windows(requires installation disc).
I don't have a system image from when I first received the computer other than that partition and I am not confident that I can reinstall windows(7) because my disc is an upgrade disc from Vista, not an entirely new version of 7.
Any thoughts? Thanks. My computer knowledge is obviously lacking.

The problem is the recovery partition, so long as the data is good, is accessed by a proprietary program on the P78xx. A Vista 64Bit repair disk at boot may allow you to access it as well. The problem with the proprietary program is now trying to obtain it.

Hey, wcboy -
From the manual:
Press "Alt+F10" during startup. "Gateway Recovery Management" should open.
If it does, click "Restore system from factory default" and click "Next".
That will wipe out EVERYTHING and restore the original, factory-loaded contents to your drive.
The process will take some time, so be patient.
Does that help? -
Thanks for the reply.
