    Hello everyone!

I recently purchased one of these beasts at bestbuy about 3 weeks ago with 3 year best warranty and all. I wanted it for games especially WoW which is what i mainly play and the machine had a few nvidia issues which would freeze wow and desktop. So i went ahead and updated the most recent ones and that week the machine ran super smooth till the otherday it locked / froze on me again. I restarted the notebook, then came the recovery modes and stuff. In the end i had a checkdisk utility popping out on me everytime i would restart the machine. So i took it to best buy for a check on the geek squad. The guy tells me to run the gateway format utility for fresh install since this doesnt come with a cd. I went ahead and did it for a fresh install.

So right now im trying to install some stuff again and mainly WoW. I get to install wow vanilla, tbc and on wrath it stops around half way, freezes during installation. Im like pulling my hairs is going on. So reboot start again, samething. Im looking for the format utility from gateway and its not there anymore. If i wanna format this computer again how can i? And basically right now i cant install WoW cause it freezes or stops during installation.

I honestly don't understand, a brand new machine giving me issues already. The guy at bestbuy told me it was the video card drivers but i installed the most updated ones it tells me i have. If someone knows what i should do plz help me. Im going crazy here, its past the 14 days and i cant get it replaced in bestbuy. :(

Go to your start menu and type in "Recovery"
Does gateway recovery manager come up? If it does, use that to restore the system.
    If not.
Well you said you got the 3yr warranty, if that comes with full accidental coverage I'd drop the dang thing :p

Some of the latest Nvidia beta drivers have issues....get the original factory ones from Gateway or use DOX's ones in the thread above.

    Gindis90 -

Does it run other games OK?

It may be a problem with Total War II - are there any updates or patches for it?

Forget restoring...get a new OEM vista disk and reinstall everything and then use all the drivers from the gateway website.

Take it back to Best Buy and get a new one. What is it with everyone trying to trouble-shoot brand new merchandise?

I agree take it back if you just bought it, why wast your time.

Your P-7805u does not come with a OEM system disk, "OEM" stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. You will need to do a system restore, unless you call Gateway and ask for a system disk. If I where you, just do a system restore if you are not familiar with reinstalling your operating system.

Total War 2 might not be working because it isn't out yet - it wouldn't be the first time this has happened.

Your Gateway recovery is loaded on a second partion D: Drive, it will stay there until you do a complete format of your hard drive.

Ok First correction: Gateway FX machines DO NOT have Recovery Disk drive D: (Like HP and other manufacturers) You have to make DVD or CD Backup recoveries First thing. DVD=2 not sure about CD's

Second: Gateway has No drivers listed for the P-7805u FX series just the P-7801u FX(Different machine with different Hardware)

I have P-7805u FX and finding drivwers for this thing is almost impossible. I also got 1920x1200 Res screen on my(When all the reviews say its 1440x900) Also half the reviews say it has DDR2 when it hass DDR3 and 512M VidRam when it has 1+Gig of VidRam. Its nuts.

I also have to take mine back since the Back light is shinning through just left of top center, only can tell on Black screens but it looks like a light foggy White blob. Irratating as hell since I have all these programs on it now and just ordered a second Identical drive for it. I am going to have to argue with Best Buy to make sure I get another with the 1920x1200 screen on it. What a Pianin the arse!

Gateway states that the "P-7800 series drivers", h e r e are the current and correct drivers for the P-7805u.

All of the (5) FX's I have bought have a recovery partion "D:" its on the hard drive, not a "DVD". Next Gateway has all the drivers you need under the 7800 FX model listing, it is a 78XX. If you got a 1920x1200 res screen like me that's awesome. Their are reviews that did list the wrong specs on the memory and video ram, they probably just figured it was the same as the P-7811, not Gateways fault. As for the White Blob, try your Video settings, set your dig vibrance to 45, and contrast to 95. And last but not lest, read this site, we have all been there done that for the most part, we will help you as much as you like :)

Guessing he thought you meant there was a second drive as D: which the recovery partition was on :p

Not to really disagree with you on the topic because you guys sound like you've been using your P-7805u's for some time and all, but I just picked one up yesterday and I'm the same way as him. My resolution is 1920x1200 and I don't have a partition labeled "D:" (yes, I understand what you mean when you say partition). As it goes for the VRAM and it being DDR3, I haven't heard anything different from what I currently have right now (1GB VRAM and 4 GB DDR3). There is another partition on my system with no label or drive assignment however the status of it is "Healthy (EISA Configuration)" and currently it is 100% free space. I've found all my drivers and utilities under "C:\ACER\Preload\Autorun\" (it is hidden). In there I found all gateway included applications under "APPS" and all of the P-7805u drivers under "DRV". In this case, if someone were to wipe the C: partition and reinstall, they would lose these files. Not to worry in my case though, the first thing I did after I took it out of the box is made system recovery discs. I also took the time and copied all drivers and applications to disc just in case.

The partition is marked as an "EISA" partition. Check out the Disk Management area and you will find a 10GB partition there right before the OS one. It is setup that way so that the rest of us won't accidentally screw it up. On that note I believe Vista "hides" it from view during the install so you won't accidentally delete it. It just shows one big 288GB partition.

I understand, however there isn't anything on it, so there really isn't a backup partition.

The restore "EISA" partition has hidden files I think, who knows, maybe there is not one anymore.

I bought a Gateway p-7805u about 3weeks ago expecting to play WoW on it. Within the first couple of weeks I noticed the graphics locking up while playing Wow but it cleared up. I thought it was just a glitch. Now after 3 weeks total I can not play WoW for more then 30 mins without my entire system freezing. I have to physically shut it down and restart to get it to restore. It says there are no new updates for my drivers but based on the posts I have seen it is not clear there is a fix for this???

make sure its not a heat issue, prop your laptop up in the back about a half a inch. Everquest 2 runs fin on my FX's, and its alot more video intencive.

Check your video settings, try a lower resolution/lower quality. Make sure your nvidia settings are set to Performance and your power scheme is set to High Performance. Make sure you're installing the drivers correctly..

LOL! The p7805 and the p7801 are identical besides the screen, and even some of the p7805s came with the p7801 screen. Where are you getting your information?

Yep, Gateway says the 7800 series drivers, h e r e, work for all of the P-78xx's.

    At least, so far, anyway.
