Hey everyone, good to be here!

My girlfriend bought me the Gateway P-7805u for my birthday Saturday (I chose the 1440x900 one, they had the 1900 model on display) and I took it home and charged it while I went out to eat. I come back and it works fine, I uninstalled some of the preloaded garbage on there, downloaded winamp and malwarebytes anti-malware. Everything works fine.

So then I took it into my living room and tried to set up a network for file transfer to it, and it just freezes up on me, and the processor makes a beeping noise on the right side of the notebook, and shuts down. I'm like wow, this is brand new....? So when it boots itself back up, it gives me a log that says the OS cannot be found. So I hit the power down button and let it sit for a minute, then turn it back on. It seems fine now. So I'm browsing through the network options, and it happens again. I go through the same process 3-4 times before I decide to not do the network transfer, and to burn everything on DVDs.

So I attepmt to install WoW, and the same thing happens before I can even get done with the first disc. So I have it packed back up and ready to return. I really like this notebook and don't want to get another one in it's place. Is this notebook just faulty out-of-the-box? The fan keeps shutting off from what I hear, and there is some pretty good heat coming out of the side. What should I do? Help!

Thanks to all who reply in advance.

Out of the side is the GPU, the rear fan is the CPU. You could try tem monitoring but it doesn't sound like you are running anything that intensive. Unless your dirvers are set and it it is way overclocked and maybe stuck.

Who knows what's wrong with the thing. If something failed on me like that I'd take it back immediately. It's most likely a hardware problem.

I came back to this forum for one last check before heading out to BB to pick up a 7805. Not good to see this post and several others like it! I don't like laptops in general (overpriced, underpowered, etc. compared to desktops) but need one with a good GPU for work. Otherwise, I'd get an el' cheapo basic laptop.

Guess I'll need to run my new 7805 through a CPU and GPU torture test before I trust it with any important stuff.

Yeah I was planning on taking it back tonight, in exchange for another one. I am definately NOT doing anything intensive. Basically browsing folders. Another couple things I was wondering

    1. I tried to install WoW and it told me "insufficient CPU Speed" I was like so I hit install anyways.

    2. I notice there is a power consumption menu where you can change how much power is being drawn based on the tasks you are doing. Shoudl I change this?

be sure you AC addapter is staying on! Mine out of the box shut down on any load and then the battery took over, had to unplug and plug back in constantly. This would cause the low CPU speed issue and possibly the others as well..............
