I figured we needed another thread on this laptop... er a new thread for this laptop that dealt with the LCD screen :D

    Here goes...
    This is my CURRENT one

This is what my old one looked like:

So, what do you guys think of my current one?

The point of this thread is to help show others what to look for and explain what to look for as well as determine whether the screen is good or bad.

Looks pretty good to me....how is the on axis/in front viewing? It looks like there may be some "ghosting" in 0035 but that's at a typical viewing angle for the user --plus it's hard to tell with glare and I got distracted by the toilet paper and what looks like an orange thong ;)

My first 7811 had real bad ghosting just about 5-10 degrees off axis to the left. My replacement is much better.

That's an orange bandanna and the toilet paper is for my sinuses. I'm too cheap to go and buy the Puff's brand.

Back on topic. What exactly do you mean by axis/in front viewing? I thought that was image 0032.

    I dont get it.

A screen is going to look different if you take a picture from different angles o_o what are you trying to prove? Was your first screen messed up or something? It does seem something is wrong with it, but I figured that it might have to do more with the odd angle you used to take the picture then the screen it self.

In IMG 0027, do you not see the wide whiteness on the black background? It's between the middle and right side of the monitor.

Now I see what you mean. Why such an odd angle for the picture? Is that the only angle you can see the ghosting?

Yes. This is very common with TN panels. IIRC, all laptop LCD screens are TN panels.

Yes img0032 is "on axis". What I meant was how does the display look to you when during your "normal stuff" on it? I don't see any ghosting just the typical light bleed at the bottom which we all have.

Mine has some streaks when at a huge angle. However I'm never at a huge angle so I don't give a crap. :p

TBH, I thought viewing angles was the only way to determine if you had a good or bad LCD screen in general. My old 19" WS Samsung 940BW is horrible! Look more than 10-15 degrees from an angle and the whole picture is horrible :( This laptop requires you to look at it at a huge angle before noticing anything like that, other than looking at it from the top angle, which I forgot to take a picture of. From the top angle, some of the colors are washed out.

to a degree... yes. but in reality speaking.... as long as it looks good from sitting or lying down in front of or slightly off to an angle (10 to 40 degrees) it "should" be considered a decent screen. now if your playing a game and slide over 10 degrees and the screen is like blacked out...well...it might be time to find a better one for a future replacement....

The real question is can those streaks slowly become visible when you're not at an angle? You've got to be at least 45 degrees to see mine. I don't want it to slowly creep up on me.
