Hello,
I am new to this site and have no real knowledge of the 7811, I was at best buy looking for a laptop and I noticed this one was on clearance for a great price so I bought it, it is large and that may be an issue for mobility in the future that is for sure.
I have read mixed reviews on this unit and was considering taking it back, any honest advise on this unit and the issues I have been reading about.
If I do keep it do I need to add new drivers or anything, and if so where do I get them.
Thank you very much

The question for you is, do you need it?
If you don't, you can certainly consider returning it or reselling it. -
is it worth the 869.00 that i paid for it
-
Also depends on the specs of the unit. Do you really need the specs it came with?
-
efff yeah its worth 869. thats a steal. If you dont want it, best buy will charge you a restocking fee.
on the other hand, if you dont like the mobility, hit the weights
After all it is a DESKTOP REPLACEMENT. -
no restocking fee on it as the manager wrote that on the receipt, nice guy. it seems nice but not sure about the vista 64

dont hate, I am just not in the gaming loop, I was just looking for a new laptop and my first. I have a older Dell 4550 desktop that just died, so I need to replace it that is the reason I got this one as it said it is a desktop replacement, but I also wanted to be somewhat portable.
any drawbacks to this unit and do I need to update anything other than windows update. -
Uh, sell it on eBay for $1500. Is that 'worth it' enough for you? -
ya right, like someone would pay that much for it when it is this price at best buy, (are you in antarctica currently, be safe. Hell I thought it was cold here in Michigan

This was my reaction to the thread:
In all seriousness, I know what goes on with 17-inch laptops. They're really not that heavy; I can stand a couple of pounds more on my back than a 15-inch for more power. Downside: they're big. They don't fit anywhere, and they're very cumbersome. Haha. Good luck dude. -
I was looking into the HP HDX-16T but it was not in stock.
-
Where abouts in michigan did you find it ?. i just sold mine but a close friend is looking for one who couldnt afford mine and im sure he could muster up the cash for that price.
-
Midland location also Port Huron I believe has some
-
ahh ok im in auburn hills hes in rochester. ill have to see if he wants to drive all that way to get it or not but he may have to for such a good deal and thanks for the info.
-
You could probably sell it for 1,200 or more on ebay.
You lucked out, most clearance places don't seem to be going for less than 1,000. -

Called the 2 stores today he mentioned that had them and one was $1301.00 and the other wanted $1240.00. He must have bought the display model im guessing .
-
That's quite a deal you got there. Although you're not in the 'gaming loop' and want portability. You probably should have done some more research before plunking down your hard-earned cash.
If you want something more portable than a 15" is what you want. Otherwise this laptop is the best bang for your buck. -
Keep it... I bought mine for $1250 and I'm so jealous. A month wait and I could have saved $400. Then I could buy 2 500GB 7200 RPM Seagates when they come out and have a beast.
Gateway P-7811FX, should it keep it or return it.
