Hoping someone can shed some light on this model for me.

I been looking online the past two weeks for a gaming laptop for under 1k. Looking at bestbuy, amazon, powernotebook, Ibuypower and a few other sites I didnt find anything for under 1k that had a graphics card over 330m, 5650, or 4670. Notebook check listed those cards as a class 2.

I did see Asus G51 and G60 models refurbs for around $700 but then I saw on Tigerdirect they had a non-refurbished Gateway P-7815u FX for $799 with Bing Cash back of $96 and Free Shipping. Basically putting the laptop at $703 total.

I checked Gateways webite and even a googlei search for this model and all I can find of its existence is on Tigerdirect and its sister websites.

I know the P-7805u is a good system based off the threads here and the videos on Youtube. I jumped on it over the Ausus GTX 260m refurbished units understanding the 9800m GTS is slightly less powerful when it comes to gaming. But I fig the 12 month warranty was well worth it.

Does anyone know anything about this model Gateway?

The 7815u is getting marked down for the new refresh of the FX line. I suggest waiting or searching for a refurbished ASUS gaming laptop. The laptop is essentially a re branded 7801u without the 1920x1200 resolution LCD. Core 2 Duo is quite dated compared to the new i5/i7 cores and the older quad core FX laptops.

    The 7815?

    From the TG website:
The 7801 & 7805 both have p8400 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz processors, so this is a less powerful version of the 05 (the 01 had the 1920x1200). I don't see any other noticeable differences.

Note: Yeah, I know, some 05's (including mine) also have the 1920x1200, but they were listed with the 1440 x 900.

Thanks for the two links the Asus looks nice but the Gateway is cheaper new from Tigerdirect once you factor in shipping CA taxes and Enviromental fee the openboxed 7908 is 998.90 for me were as the new one from TD is cheaper with $98bing cashback.

How much more powerful is the 260m over a 9800m GTS. I saw the marks on Notebookcheck but was wondering about real world performances.

Notebookcheck.com has inconsistent results and should be considered as a trustworthy resource. Notebookreview's own thread of mobile graphics cards is much better.

I posted this deal on fatwallet about the gateway 7815 for $709 after bing cashback. I got my laptop one day later and have been gaming ever since. For the price I paid I still feel its good bang for the buck. However, i think i would of been happier with the $150 more expensive model. it had a 2.53ghz processor and a 260m gtx... I play call of duty MW2 at 1440x900 and free for all/team death match its very smooth on high settings, but if i play ground war (more players) it gets kinda jerky. i turn it down to medium and it plays great and looks plenty good yet for me.

I am just left wondering how much better the higher end gateway would of been....

One thing to remember, processor speed does not dictate gaming speed, that's all based on the gpu. With Graphics cards being equal, there's barely any difference between $60 cpus compared to $1000 cpus when running at max vid card capability. The 260m is a little better than the 9800m gts, but I wouldn't say I'd pay much more for it.

CPU does play a big role, however, in most other intensive computer usage.

I should also note that the future of gaming will take advantage of multiple core cpu usage, but that's not happening anytime soon so gpu is still the current deciding factor.

The above post by elnino is full of truth. And I want to also add that when the day comes where having a super fast multi core CPU to play games is necessary any computer you currently own will be completely outdated anyway and virtually worthless for gaming.

I just got rid of my P-7805 but I can say that it played any game I threw at it completely pleasurable. If your goal is to compare 3DMark scores and WEI numbers you could be a little disappointed but if you just want gaming fun then a laptop like the FX is easily up to it.

With a little effort in the cooling department the CPU and GPU overclock very well and temps never made me nervous on mine. It's a truly great laptop.

So is this laptop worth it? I'm looking for something that will do me justice for the next two years when it comes to gaming (newer games on lower settings at least), light 3d modeling, and video editing. And I really want to know if the CS5 series will run well on it specification Premiere Pro. Ive been scouring the Internet for answers, hoping to get some here.

If you are doing photo editing you may want a better display. The 1440x900 is a bit low of a res. The 1920x1200 is good if you can get the LG, the AUO is ok but I've heard the LG is better.

Gaming, well I get 10,300 3DMark06 1280x1024. To me the FFXIV Benchmark played well at the lower setting, YMMV as even the 2300 or so score it still looked fine to me..............

If you plan to run CS5 get a x9100 before they are gone and you should be able to do 3400 MHz or so. That should be more than ample for most tasks.......

Yes, but you went from 1.8ghz to a 3.4ghz CPU. On top of that the 7815 comes with a better processor then the 1.8ghz cpu you had. Granted its only 200mhz faster i think its more efficient then the older T series.

You convinced me to upgrade, but i cant decide on which chip. I might just get a cheap T9400. ill gain 533mhz on my clock speed and double my L2 cache without sacraficing much money or heat.

edit: ok i think im getting an X9100 tomorrow. i cant wait to get it and try out some benchmarking.

hello everyone: My friend has a Gateway P-7815u and he wants to update the CPU, so I am wondering what are the supporting Cpu's for the Gateway P-7815u

Those newegg deals do look really good but I have refused to buy anything from them that includes LCD displays because of their industry first EIGHT DEAD PIXELS return policy. You cannot return LCD's with as many as 8 dead pixels as defective if you read the newegg return policy. The only way to get out of the bad items they ship would be if you are prepared to accept shipping costs and restocking fees of 15% etc as they do not consider those defective. Heck I might start an online business called Pixel-Egg and ship nothing but bad LCD screens with teh same policy and get rich on nothing but restocking fees.

    Actually the P8400 is a 2.26 GHz processor, not a 2.4
