    Just simply asking if this processor would work in a Gateway 7850?

    i don't think so. i think you should look at the t9600, t9900, and the x9100.

    Isn't the ONLY difference betwen X9100 and X9000 the clock speed? I don't get it.

    P9700 Best Core 2 CPU made ever.

    6MB Cache 1066 FSB 2.8Ghz Intel Dynamic Acceleration up to 2.93Ghz close to 3Ghz

    and only 28 Watt TDP

    one of the only P series to have 6MB cache

    Yeah, but my question was reg X9000 since I can pick one up for almost nothing. P9700 is ok but since I don't much care about power consumption I would rather get the T9900 if I was wanting to spend the money.

    the x9000 is for the santa rosa chipset and you have montevina.
