My friend has a Gateway P-7915U FX laptop and every time he plugs in and tries to play a game the graphics card crashes. If its running on battery he can play whatever he wants. It gives this error (Windows NVIDIA Kernel Mode Driver has stopped working). Any Ideas?

That message is from the gpu drivers that crashes and then restarts. His problem is most likely drivers issue. Tell him to either reinstall the same drivers or look for some new ones.

Does the laptop power on with no battery and just the AC adapter? The AC adapter may be failing and not supplying enough power which would explain why it works on battery. Just an idea, I am no expert. Also assuming he hasn't changed the power plan once on battery the GPU clocks decrease thus making it run cooler. SO check and see if it's getting too hot on AC with a program like HWmonitor. If it stays around 60-85 when playing games it's fine but more may point to an issue with gpu cooling which can be caused by a dead fan an unseated gpu or blockage of the vent on the side of the laptop.
