Backordered![]()
-
Yeah... Whisky Tango Foxtrot? I'm going today anyway since I know first hand that Best Buy's inventory system isn't exactly accurate.
-
Sweet! Please let us know how it goes. Depending on your findings, I may wander over to my local BB and see what hey have.
-
Sadly, i've come up with bubkus. i've been told that it's online only.
-
Online only huh? Wow, that surprises me. I thought for sure BB would have it in the store. I suppose they only have so much room for the display models in the store.
Thanks for the info. -
Yeah, I think it's weird. Last time I went there they had almost nothing on display and it looked.sad. i'm sure they have the room!
-
Maybe BB is going the way of the Dodo... and CC
-
Well, either way... I decided to buy the laptop online. I hope the estimate of 1 to 2 weeks is correct!

I think the backordered on the website means that they haven't gotten them yet. Chances are by the time they're stocked on the site, give it a few days, and they'll be in stores.

5400rpm 320gb hdd? 1440x900 screen?
ahh.. that's downgrade from mine.. it has gtx 260m which is nice but
it alone doesn't give me enough reason to pay more money to get it.
i think i will stick with mine till gtx 300 series equipped one come out.
or i hope this new model come with 1920x1200 screen on first wave
like 7805u did and that 5400rpm hdd is miss printed. i might spend extra
$100 or two for upgrade to gtx 260m if it is but if not, waste of money. -
As far as the screen... 1920x1200 would be way too much to play a lot of games with a decent FPS with a GTX260m. If you want high resolution AND good frames then you're going to have to spend a lot more money than the $1050 for the P-7915u.
1440x900 is just fine for me at 17 inches. Hell, my desktop is 22" at 1680x1050, so it's not that much of a difference to me. -
My 7805u has been fantastic and still really exceeds my expectations at 1049.00$ -
-
Well, I do like to turn on AA and AF in games. The GTX260m is roughly equivalent to the 9800GT in my desktop, which seems like it would suffer above the 1680 x 1050 I play at now.
-
-
seriously, are ppls prefer 1440x900 screen over 1920x1200 idiot or something if their prices are same? it's not like 1920x1200 screen stuck with that resolution for small lettering but it can also go down to 1680x1050 as well as 1440x900 or other custom resolution while 1440x900 screen ones are stuck with that resolution for highest. also i am well aware of 9800gts or even gtx 260m aren't powerful enough to run recent games at 1920x1200 at smooth framerate but who cares? i still want higher resolution screen even though i run games at lower resolution screen. it just doesn't make any sense for me spending more money to gain only 2-3 fps for games while downgrading your monitor and hdd speed. you know what i honestly think? gateway did good job for release 7811 and 7805u for such amazing price for spec back in the days but after those models, they sux real bad. look at those models like 7807 or 7809 or this 7915. it's not even an upgrade considering how much they charge for these laptops. or maybe they just can't beat their old models' amazing deal. if it's 17 inch 1920x1200(or 1920x1080) and i7 mobile + gtx 260m and 320gb or 500gb 7200rpm hdd, i am willing to pay $1500 for it but otherwise, no.
asus already released $1500 model that has i7 mobile + gtx 260m, 640gb hdd 7200rpm with 1920x1080 screen but only reason i am not getting it is it's only 15.6 inch(i want bigger screen). so nahh.. for me. that 7915u doesn't interest me one bit. -
-
For those of you that keep talking about upgrades... Remember that not all of us already have a laptop. This will be my first. I'm moving from a desktop I built (overclocked Athlon II X2 @2.8, 1.5 TB, 9800GT) so i'm really moving sideways rather than up or down.
-
It's not a bad deal for a first time buyer. You will find a lot of people in this area looking at the new Gateway's were hoping for an upgrade though. That is why you will see people like me saying it doesn't seem like much of an upgrade. Still a great deal at 1050.00 regardless what screen you get. If you get a choice which you don't with this version you would have to be insane not to want the 1920 by 1200 screen. That is my opinion and of course someone is going to disagree. That is ok but the vast majority will probably agree and that is fine too. To each his own.
Hope that anyone interested in the deal jumps on it. These have been stellar machines for playing games. They don't overclock on the processor side usually. They don't support quad core processors. They don't have some of the things I would think are just awesome that have just come out. That is totally ok! They still rock.
This is a great high end laptop for someone on a budget and the fact that the build quality and ability to run stock with oustanding performance and low heat have been a standard in this category are simply amazing.
I wouldn't give you any amount of money for the Asus models. They all seem to have heat issues. No computer needs to run that hot.
Like many I will wait for I7 and Nvidia GTX 300 to be my next laptop spec. -
Xarthos:
Repped.
You hit it right on the head. Sure, it would be foolish to upgrade from a P-7811 fx or a WUXGA p-7805 but for those of us getting a first laptop, you can't get much better for the price. I don't upgrade until it becomes absolutely necessary, as shown by my desktop with a 8800gt (ok) and a pentium d 820 2.8 ghz (bleh). I understand you guys who are disappointed. This is definitely an incremental upgrade in speed and a downgrade in screen (and in my opinion looks, not a fan of the huge fx logo on the outside, probably gonna get a skin of some sort). Oh, and I'm getting a 7915u as soon as I can; I'll probably post impressions. -
I ordered mine off Best Buy's site last night so I'll let you know when it gets here.
-
Whats wrong with the logo. I think its wicked. hope it ain't some sticker though!

Just thought I would share with all of you what I was told today, and I guess you could say saw. I stopped into one of the BB stores in the Milwaukee area where I live. I had one of the employees check their system to see if any of the stores in the area had the 7915 and if any of them had any coming anytime soon. Not only did none of the stores in the area have them, none were coming.
He then decided to be a smart alec and check the whole midwestern portion of the U.S. Same thing. None on hand, none coming, for all stores in the midwest, including the warehouses.
Needless to say I didn't walk out very happy. -

Odd that your best buy wouldnt have any coming... its supposedly a BB exclusive.

While still being a very good laptop it needs a refresh on the chasis.
I looks exactly the same as my first gaming laptop the 6831 FX(*sigh* good times), besides the new design on the lid.
I wonder if the 260M GTX in this laptop is at full power or have lower clocks like the ASUS models( G51/G60)?
Things I would have like to have seen on this new model
1.Backlit keyboard
2.Different color than the copper trim to add to the laptop cover design, a nice metallic BLACK trim would make it stand out from the older models and make it look much better.
To me anyway
This is shaping up to be a pretty good deal for a 17" laptop.
If it can support QUADS even better. -
Well I can tell you this after using my Q9000 260 GTX model FX from futureshop up here in canada, that the 260M gave only a 1-5fps gain over any of the games I played with the 9800m GTS. Running 3DMARK06 FPS was on average 3fps better then the 9800M GTS so if your considering this laptop just for the 260 GTX not worth it.
-
This is a good buy for people looking for there first gaming laptop that don't want to break the bank.
The 260 GTX is still better than the 9800M GTS any way you look at it.
Is it worth upgrading just for the GPU?
No of course not but the 260 GTX is a very welcome addition.
Should be out in 2-3 weeks so I guess we will find out how good it is then -
seriously, why gateway! If your gonna release the laptop, release it already!! I'd hate to have to order an asus simply cause some block over at gateway forgot to ship them out!
-
BB has a estimated arrival time of 11/18-12/2/2009 so it's not to far off.
-
I don't know about that though Ikas. When it first appeared on Best Buy's website it said estimated arrival time was something like 11//6/09-11/18/09. I think all they are doing is saying the estimated arrival time is 2+ weeks away from the date you check it rather than a date they are expecting them. They're probably getting those dates from where it says, "backordered, usually leaves our warehouse in 1-2 weeks".
-
Best Buy headquarters called me a couple of nights ago to say they have no idea when the P-7915u is coming out. As far as they know, Gateway has not set a release date and Best Buy does not know when they will sell it Online or in stores because Gateway has not sent out any notice. One wonders if this laptop even exists!
My guess is that Gateway is focusing on the Christmas season and the upcoming Black Friday hype which means the P-7915u will become available when the Christmas shopping season commences and not beforehand. -
This is unfortunate for Gateway because the delay has motivated many people to purchase an Asus or some other non-Gateway laptop.
-
I know; I would probably go ahead and spring for the Asus G51j with the i7 but I love the Gateway's battery life and the Asus's cooling scares me. I just gotta keep waiting... Why does it have to be the one laptop I want is the one that just won't come out? Ug.
-
-
if it is sold at best buy i might consider "upgrading.."
-
hey, I ordered one on 11-02, and saw 11-10 to 11-22 eta. I contacted BB yesterday to get a better idea of ship date. I was told that Gateway has "promised" shipments on 11-25-09. I was also told that there are 44 backordered. I didnt ask him if that was a nationwide figure or regional one. I too am disappointed in the wait, especially with Modern Warfare 2 coming out this weekend... It should be worth the wait though...
-
WANT TO WATCH!
-
I don't want to rain on your blu-ray Star Trek parade, but this is what the machine has in it:
Optical Drive 8x Multi-Format Dual Layer DVDRW and DVD-RAM
This spec was pulled off gateway's site. I don't see blu-ray listed... If I'm wrong, please let me know. I too have a Sharp Aquos 42" 1080P. Star Trek should look killer on it! -
-
-
-
hey again, the 11-25 date was given as a beginning shipment date. I think they'll come directly from gateway. But, who really knows... Thanks for the info on the bluray! I may have to check into that. Until then my PS3 will have to suffice.
-
Looks like FRYs has their version in stock, I still like the price better on the Best Buy one though...
http://www.frys.com/product/6059998 -
Now THAT just chaps my hide! Frys wants 225 bucks for 180 gigs more than the BB version... Makes you wonder even more what BB is up to. Is Gateway sitting back allowing orders to pile up, so they can more or less make them to order? Mine was ordered 11-2. On 11-7, I received an email from BB restating the backordered status of my item. So, today marks one week. Let's see what happens as the week progresses.
-
The one thing that interests me is that Frys says it has a LED backlit screen. I'd go ahead and order it if I knew for sure the 7905u doesn't. Well, after having Frys confirm that's what it has.
-
They're either misinformed, or it's just like the 7805
-
I just want to know the temps on these machines..
Gateway P-7915u FX is up on Best Buy's website
