What about drivers? Won't there be a conflict of sorts?

Depends on what hardware you have. Plus, you can get all the drivers online HERE . And these systems were so similar, I doubt there is much difference in the hardware. What Operating System was on it?

Let me find the link. But if you still have the backup partition you can still make the disks.

^^^Did that help you out any? The recovery discs I have are for Vista. But if you have a valid Win 7 key, you can find a download somewhere and just use your key to install it.

    thanks all. Really appreciate it.

@twiggle I have a valid windows 7 key that came with the laptop. Haven't been able to find any recovery disks anywhere.

@pmassey my partitions are completely messed up. All i get now is a BSOD when I boot. Opted to look for recovery disks first.

The key is an upgrade or install key? Reasson I ask is I think some 79xx's were originally vista installs and the oem key on the system is for vista not windows 7.

Look at the COA on the bottom of the computer. That will tell you which original OS was installed.

Then if the sticker is an original windows 7 sticker the key should match for that os as well. Now it is time to find a restore disk set. Yo can order these or there are guids in the OS section on using a downloaded install CD and the oem keys. This route will require finding your own drivers etc................

@tanware sorry for the late reply. I've managed to install an download a windows 7 - SP1 image which will need a key. I'll test it out once my new hard disk arrives. I'll keep you posted on whether it works. Fresh install it is.

Any way to setup the partitions just like old? With pq service and system reserved? Can't tell you what the first one's for, but I think I like it.

Thanks, by the way, for your replies. Appreciate it.

Maybe someone made one for their own use but the P-7805u did not come with a recovery disk. There is a partition on the c drive that has the recovery data.

However, having said that, I never could get that to work so I just did a new install of Win 7 64 and added the drivers from Gateway website and Nvidia driver from Nvidia website.
