Hey guys I was just wondering what was the best hard drives newegg has to offer for us to use in raid. And or, is raid really worth it over a single hard drive? Is it actually quicker and worth it?

Also, is upgrading to 4gbs of ram, on a 32bit system really worth it?

Also, what cpu upgrade do you guys recommend. I can pick up an x9000 for around 400shipped.

A link to a good hard drive from newegg would be appreciated, as for ram if its worth the upgrade.

lagoom has the western digital 320gb 7200 rpm drive for $101

whereas newegg has the same drive for $140

as for ram, if you are looking to upgrade to 4gb, its kinda pointless unless you have a 64 bit operating system which the 6831 did not come with.

As for the processor, is the x9000 for 400 bucks worth it? What about raid worth it or no?

I plan on grabbing either 1 or two of the those 320gig hdd's linked above from newegg. Only because I have never heard of lagoom before and have never used them. And newegg has free shipping so it evens out pretty much.

The x9000 is an awesome processor and the best youre gonna get for the 6831. That being said, there's not too much real-world difference between the x9000 and the x7800, performance wise and the 7800 can be had for about $240. The 9000 does run cooler. In the end it's all about how much you wanna spend. If you have the cash, the 9000 is a WHOPPING improvement over the stock 5450 and definitely worth it. However, if you can deal with a bit warmer CPU temps(see sig) you can save quite a bit going with an X7800. Also, do not hesitate to look at ES CPUs. I haven't heard one person having an issue with them.

As far as RAID, I find it to make a very nice improvement in pretty much everything I do. Everything from Windows boot times, to game load times have noticeably improved. I say, yes. It's definitely worth it.

Great thanks so much guys. My 21st birthday is on sept 25th and I decided I am going to splurge a little and grab 2 nice hard drives, and the x9000. I have never used raid before in my life, but have done a lot of installs on pc's and laptops so I don't see there being a problem.

But for the raid, whats the best setup and stripe size to use. I mainly game on this rig, watch movies, make movies, etc. Let me know.

Also, can this computer be 100% compatible with windows xp yet? If not, what problems are there? I think xp is a little more stable then vista still, just my 2 cents, and uses

The COA/serial on the 6831 works on 64 bit Vista.
