Hey all, I've got a quick question regarding my Gateway P6831FX laptop and was wondering if any of you may know how to resolve the issue. Here's the situation:
I've connected my Gateway P6831FX to my 32" LCD TV, taking advantage of the HDMI port that comes with the laptop. Everything so far had been working perfectly: I've been able to listen to music, stream movie trailers, play games, etc. perfectly fine using the HDMI cable. The video display and sound works just fine with my sound playback device set to IDP HDMI Audio.
However, when I put a DVD into my laptop to play it on the LCD TV, the video display works fine but the sound doesn't work. All I hear coming out of my TV's speakers is a loud, annoying, buzzing noise. When I change the sound playback back to the regular laptop speakers, the sound works fine again. Keep in mind, the HDMI audio had been working for everything else but the DVD.
I talked to Gateway's technical support but the technician said it was a new laptop, never heard of the issue before, and couldn't really help me for now. I installed the most up-to-date sound drivers and it still malfunctions with the DVDs. I also tried checking out the IDP HDMI audio properties and the sound format, testing whether my digital receiver can decode DTS Audio or Dolby Digital. When I tested both, a similar loud and buzzy noise comes out. My guess is that:
1. I might be missing some sort of HDMI DVD audio codec (if such a thing exists).
or
2. The digital receiver and LCD TV I'm using are incapable of decoding the DVD's audio properly through HDMI.
Sorry for the long post, but if anybody knows how to resolve this issue, let alone help me diagnose it, please let me know! Thanks in advance.

yea I've seen that thread but it doesn't actually help me at all. Also I think his situation is different than mine because he gets no HDMI sound at all while I get HDMI sound from everything BUT dvds. Also I have the most uptodate sound driver as mentioned above. I believe I have the most recent video card driver as well from Gateway's website. I've never used laptopvideo2go's drivers; do I need to? I saw so many drivers on their site and wasn't sure of which one to choose.
