Go with a T9300. -

If CPUs are cheap look for a X9000. It improved my gaming performance greatly. The best CPUs that will work are the T8300,T9300, T9500, X7800, X7900, and the X9000.

hmm Cool ....This x9000-x9900 selling here for around 200$, same price around "i7". Any more ideas anyone Plz

i dont think you can use the x9100 cuz of the 1066 fsb. typing /w 1 hand.

xxERIKxx is Getting "11624: 3DMark 06" with it while i can only get 7000 from it
thanks.
any more sugession anyone plz..... -
Devil 05 - The motherboard on the 6860fx will only allow you to use a processor that has a 800mhz fsb. Meaning the x7800, x9000, t9300, t9500 are the best choices for you and the only choices. You can NOT use the x9100 because its a 1066mhz fsb cpu and the laptop will not start with it. If I were you, I would go with a t9300/t9500 as they run much cooler than the x7800s and aren't to far off with the x9000's when it comes to performance.
Also, make sure you run a program like rmclock to check to see what your temps are on the cpu. Cleaning the fans with compressed air is absolutely amazing. I actually saw a case in person where it dropped gpu temps 30c! -

so Im kind of in the same boat and I hate to repost. however the data i have gathered so far is
1. my stock 6860fx is overheating and shutting down. (it is horrible)
2. I dont mind upgrading my video card OR processor.
3. the processors available to me that are THE BEST are t9900? x9100? x9000? which of these would be superior to the others?
4. if changing my video card out is needed then so be it. but im changing the processor first to see if this solves the problem.
5. which video card for this laptop would be THE BEST compatible.
6. thank you for the time in reading and responding. -
You can't run the x9100, the best for us is the x9000 or t9500, those are your only two choices besides the x7900 which i don't like.
The x9000 and t9500 are about the same but the x9000 can be overclocked.
If you are overheating, clean out your fans and ensure they are working.
You can't upgrade the video cards in these because they are soldered onto the motherboard. You can get a whole new mobo and replace it, but it's not worth the cash imo. -
Thanks for making this post and for all the responses. I'm currently looking to upgrade the cpu of my 6860fx and this post was immensely helpful. I think I'm going to upgrade to a x9000 for the ultimate power and performance.
I'd like to pose a question if I may. I'm also interested in adding more ram to my laptop. I use a lot of intensive programs like maya, photoshop, zbrush and other 3D/2D art applications and my laptop has served me pretty well. And I play a lot of games too. I need more power under the hood though. I've gone through a ton of posts on here and I've learned that the 6860fx can only accept up to 4gbs of ram. And that they can only be DDR2-667 and not DDR2-800. I'm pretty sure this is correct but can someone confirm this for me?
One more thing, crucial.com says that "Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules." What are peoples opinion on this? Should I buy a 4gb kit(2gbx2) and remove what I have in my laptop? Or just one 2gb stick and remove my 1gb stick installed in my laptop? Thanks! -
finally got around to getting an upgraded cpu.. T8300 for $41 bucks. Not bad... I was going to go with a T9300 but didn't really wanna spend the extra money.
Now I just need to find me an internal blu-ray drive...
anyone? -
just as an update:
I received the chip, and there were several bent pins along the chip. I had a helluva time finding them and fixing them..
After I got the CPU seated, put the as5 on, put it all together... worked like a charm. 1.83ghz to 2.40... Very happy with it. -

So If my reads go correct the T9300 would be a good option to go with to increase my CPU from the 1.83 it is at right now? I found used one for decent price but going for T9500 expensive even for a used CPU so I think I can live with the T9300. I just like to know those whom have gone that route to the T9300 CPU and how it has worked for them?

I did the T9300 upgrade earlier this year. The performance increase was definitely worth it, at least for the games I wanted to play at the time.
However, for newer games, you're not going to get max settings and 60FPS at the laptop's native resolution (1440 x 900).
I have my 6860FX hooked up to an HDTV and have learned to "live" with a 1280 x 720 resolution and medium-to-high settings at decent/playable framerates. The last games I finished on this setup were Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dead Island, and Saints Row the Third. I'm currently going through Batman: Arkham City, and it looks good and has been quite enjoyable. Don't think I would have been able to do any of that on the old CPU, even with the lowered resolution.
Looking at eBay, you can get the T9300 for ~$59 and upwards, much better than what I paid for. If you're not going to get a new laptop or PC soon, I would highly recommend the upgrade. -

So would you think going X9000 would be good or is the hardware my limitation and I should stay with the T9300 as that would be the best setup for me? I am looking to upgrade the CPU so I can enjoy my Gateway for some time to come.

i might sell x9000 in few days. PM me and i will tell you because im waiting a new motherboard. x9000 is a good CPU and you can overclock it and push the limits.

Some old news here but I did finally get a T9300 and there is a definite improvement on the laptop side as well as the Windows index went from 4.9 for CPU and memory to 6.6 for CPU and memory as well as access and computing is faster then a 1.86Ghz CPU. I will now definitely keep my gamer laptop for some time unless someone offers good money for it then I might sell it but I will keep if for now.
