The Model I'm referring to is the Gateway NX550/NX850/S-7500/S-7700/M460/M680 Port Replicator. The fault with this port replicator is that the AC plug requires a 120W (19V 6.32A) power in order to charge your laptop. All gateway laptop ac adapters does not have the above adapter. The specific adapter is hard to find and Gateway sells it for $80 US.

I just want to complain why would gateway sell a port replicator that does not work with your purchased laptop's AC adapter? Also this information is very well hidden under the Support section for the replicator. Any replicators selling on ebay that does not include the ac adapter is pretty useless as operation solely depends on the battery.

I'm not sure it's not well described. I guess I remember pricing out a M680 on their site and if you chose the port replicator option, it made it pretty clear that you needed the other power supply. It's because it needs to power more USB ports and the other devices...which has a larger draw than the provided power supply can give(and the bigger one is more than just a laptop needs).

It's not that unusual...and the fact that ebay doesn't give you the information makes sense. I never depend on information from an ebay auction to be accurate. I've found that even if they blatantly state compatibility or "complete", that I need to verify that information on my own, as the ebay vendors often know little or nothing about the product they sell.
