I called gateway support yesterday and i literally got the stereotypical woman from india. She had a horrible accent, and I didnt even know if she got everything I told her. I had told her stop errors from BSOD and she came back with saying "The video games I was trying to play require an external sound blaster card" which sounds ridiculous to me. The common game I play is WC, which I play with sound off. After I told her this she said I would have to send it in for them to try to fix. Assuming they cannot recreate the BSOD, they will just send it back saying nothing is wrong with it correct? Is there a way to have them not send it back if they cannot recreate, like a way to prove it BSOD all the time? THANKS!

I would recommend try again, not calling, but using Gateway email support service. You might go back and forth a few times, but if it needs to be sent back, at least you have a paper trail that documents your issues.

    cheers ...

Lol I had an even worse experience with the email support. I stated in my original message ALL my issues and ALL the solutions I have tried. They just repeated what I tried in my first message then told me to call for further assistance.

I had a bunch of random BSODs during startup/resuming from sleep as well and I called support and also got the Indian woman.

After telling her I had already used the recovery disks I made to restore the system and was still getting BSODs she suggested that the disks I made might be faulty. I thought this was highly unlikely and told her so, so she gave me the service # and address to send my laptop to.

Sent it there, asked for service update, got this:

    Status Update

    Dear Andrew Xxxxx,

Thank you for contacting Gateway. I’ll be happy to assist you.

For the status of the computer that was sent for service under Service Request Number 1-4O9INP, Gateway repair facility had received the unit 04/24/2009 and repair is on-going. I hope this clarifies.

    Respectfully,
    Gateway Online Technical Support

Hopefully all goes well and I can avoid any of the loose keyboards and other random "quirks" that Gateway seems to send repaired notebooks back with.

Lol yeah I know what you mean. I told them the BSOD i got, and asked not to receive the list of common BSOD, and they guy sent me the list of common bsod. Then I told them I had deleted my partition and dont have recovery disc, he told me to use the recovery disc or partition to factory install. Then he told me to buy new recovery discs after I told him it was 100% not the OS. Fail for support.

    man.. its a risk.
but are you sure they'll be able to fix it?
BSOD problems... if they cant really figure out whats wrong with it fast enough, they might just replace it and send it back to you.
maybe you should get like a custom skin done to that thing, so they will HAVE to ask you before they simply replace it..
its not like they can tell a difference from yours with 1920 compared to a replacement one that has a 1440.

im going to bet you that they'll just replace the thing with another 7805u if they cant really recreate the problem.
i dont even think they'll TRY to recreate a problem just to figure out whats wrong with it.

    my thoughts only.

    yea hope all goes well.
its just that.. you might never be able to prove that you had a 1920x1200..
and people on support lines dont know more than the information they are given, which is: 7805u's are supposed to be 1440x900. they might keep saying the same thing.

Gateway support is horrible, after months of email responses with links to random pages on their site and me complaining to the BBB I was finally given a number to call and the person spoke actual english. She finally got things working but its the repair depot in Texas that is poor. They sent my laptop back to me 4 times supposedly repaired but they failed. They had my lappy for 5 months in the end I went to bestbuy and bought another.

    Good luck

The very same thing happened with my problem. Each time I would reply by reiterating my original Email. I have a laptop that was in question and I was given instructions on how to follow through using instructions for a tower. I purchased Gateway because I heard while shopping on HSN that their support staff was here in the U.S. I soon found out, that is not so. With all due respect, the last thing I need when I am trying to solve a computer problem is the guessing game of solving what is being spoken to me.
