Just picked up two of these today for my kiddos. I'd better be considered the best dad in the world for at least a week after Christmas!! :D

They had no problems ignoring the "1 per household" rule.

leave space for the left side so the fan can blow out all the heat.

if u can keep a desk fan on it so it will be as cool as ice. either everyone is really sensitive to the heat or im just too tough to feel it. seriously the worst heat ive ever experienced with this laptop is warm on the left side.

I have left enough space + cooling pad and temp reach 65-70 C just surfing the net.

The temps are perfectly normal. At 50c or 60c the fan is at its lowest speed. When I had this unit it maxed out at 80c at full load which is perfectly fine. No need to buy laptop coolers....these are not desktop.....dont worry about the temps.

How does the C2D version compare as far as heat is concerned?

I have the core2duo version also (T6815) and it does not get nearly as hot. It does not even get warm actually. The thing is the C2D version kicks the fan on at much lower temps. The fan on the c2d verison is louder at its lowest speed also. It the EXACT same fan and cooler but the laptop kicks it on at a faster speed. I wish it just stayed on at a super low speed like on the AMDs instead of it turning on and off all the time at higher (and louder) speeds.

There is nothing wrong with the AMD Turion x2 verison. The temps are normal.

@ onion your fan gets noisy? 1 things i love about this AMD one

the fan is constant low and quiet, i dont notice the fan at all.. even if it gets hot in a hot environment, outside usually, i still dont hear the fan what i would give for quiet fans, this was a blessing in disguise :D

Mine is not noisy its just a tiny bid louder at lowest speed. Its the EXACT same fan and heatsink in both laptop. Yes I looked.

The C2D version of this laptop runs the lowest speed faster than the AMD so its alittle bit louder.

I still cant believe how much faster the C2D is and it runs so much cooler. :p

lol, no wonder its cooler since the fan runs the lowest speed faster than the AMD. im sure if it did that it would be much cooler for the AMD too ^^

Lokster. The fan only turns on once in a while when doing things like surfing the net. Its not on all the time like the AMD.

Its not even funny how much cooler the laptop runs and how much faster it is. Its really is shocking and Im being serious.

Example, I watch TV over the network with a Hava box. The AMD laptop was running the Hava TV app with 40% cpu uasge. The 1.5ghz C2D version I have now only has 24% cpu usage when runnig the exact same app.

This is just one example of how shockingly faster the c2d version is.
Despite the Trurion x2 being 400mhz faster the c2d STILL had FAAAR less CPU usage.

Even using Vista in general everything feels so much more snappier and yes I had the AMD version perfectly optimized with a clean install too.

well your happy with your intel and im happy with my amd ^^ i really really dont see the difference as i dont spend time looking at numbers much. i just work play and enjoy, as for the heat problem i never had that issue. its never really hot and gets the occasional warmth. but not to the point unusable or what.

as for feeling snappier i dunno, ive used a friends toshiba dualcore 1.8ghz and it doesnt feel any different at all. so what if its using more %? at least its being used :p

I think it comes down to the Turion being cheaper. For only 599 you're getting a lot of other features that a C2D laptop would not be able to provide you with.

How much does the C2D t-series cost anyways? I saw one for 599, but it was open box.

Yes the Turion is cheaper but the C2D verison are on clearance now at best buy. The only MAIN feature the C2D lacks is HDMI port.

There will be an acer 14.1 c2D laptop for 499, looks very nice and sleek, if you don't need hdmi. Price is $499

This baby is sweet for the price Webcam/Mic/PLUS IRDA Fast Infrared Port (for syncing IR compatiable devices) nothing more to buy practically.
It does come with Vista Home Premium and uses about 1 gig of ram (out of 2gb it has) and 5-10% proc compared to 713NR which ran apprx 700mb/2-5% proc out of the box, but i think its a matter of figuring it out, how to get it optimised better.

AMD on this laptop runs hotter than C2D but, but with a lower level of noise. a bit worry about heat, since i had several laptops before and none never was over 50-53 C even running games and this while surfing net it reach about 70 C. Either way this laptop rocks!!!!!

The temps are perefectly normal. Turion x2 was designed to run at these temps and can even run at 95c before you have to start to worry.

This laptop will never allow the temps to pass 80c.

$600 was an OK price but FAR from a steal. For $650 you should be looking for an intel based laptop not AMD.
