This looks like a great laptop for the money ... can anyone comment on the build quality of Gateway laptops?

I have a 2 year old P7805U FX Series laptop from Gateway. I've been pretty happy with it.

It's not the most well built laptop on earth, but it certainly compares to offerings from HP, Dell, MSI, Acer, etc...

These new models noted by the OP seem to be a little better built.

As with all things, If you take care of it, it should last you a good long time.

I personally wouldn't get either one of these... With laptops I tend to go way overboard on new purchases to make sure I get more out of my investment. I'll spend $2k+ to get something that's on the bleeding edge of current tech and try to squeeze 4 or 5 years out of it before it's obsolete.

I think these would be fantastic for productivity machines though... Internet machines / office applications / e-mail, music, etc...

Anyone know where the Gateway ID 47H03h can be bought online? And why does Acer/Gateway keep taking it to the US consumers by not offering us the same GPU options as the canadian counterparts?

Canada gets ID with NV GT 540 while USA only gets integrated.

I got this 6860 three years ago now, and I haven't had a single issue with it at all. It's used for gaming, video, EVERY day.

I can comment that the Gateway NV52, I bought for my wife, would not boot after 1 year !

Only good thing was this laptop was too cheap, when purchased, for me to be inclined to put any more money into it. In other words, I put the NV series notebooks into the disposable category.

I replaced it with an Asus !

Let me just qualify this thread just so that there is no mistake. I posted this to show that there is some sort of life still stirring at Gateway and that perhaps maybe another higher end gaming aimed notebook might soon come to fruition.
As far as the ID and NV series, I would look to other venders products first. Always research, reviews and the "bang for the buck" quotient. :)

No idea. There aren't any review for it right now.

That's too bad, I really need a new laptop for university in the fall and this seems perfect.
