I am planning on taking off the bottom panel of my gateway fx in order to clean the fans. Do I simply unscrew the screws bordering the perimeter of the laptop? or is there another way to access the fans? I'd rather be safe then sorry.

    Thanks

Couldn't you have just answered the yes or no question instead of being unhelpful?

Let me rephrase my questions.. I am wondering "if" I need to remove the entire bottom compartment to clean my fans with compressed air, or do I spray compressed air into the vents of the laptop? I looked at the sticky on disassembling the laptop but found no definitive answer on how to do it as I do not need to remove the heatsink, hdd, multimedia panel etc.

    thanks

sorry bro, its just that i dont think yes or no wouldve answered your question, and there was a post on exactly what you were asking directly above this one.

you should take off the entire bottom to clean the vents, spraying compressed air would cause a lot of turbulence and push some of the dust further into the pc for the fans to then blow out of the vents again.

taking off the main panel will only allow you access to one fan. you should clean the blades of the fan, compressed air wont remove a lot of that dust

you will need to completely disassemble the laptop to get to the other fan on the GPU

I dont suggest you use compresses air alone, itll solve the issue temporarily, but you should get used to performing maintenance on your computer if you plan on keeping it for a while

EDIT: and you don't have to follow all of those directions for disassebmling your computer in the order he gives if you are just cleaning your fans, but I do suggest you remove your heatsink as thats where most of the dust will be :)

thank you, that was just the answer I was looking for. I was unsure of what exactly to take apart and if I need to.
