From the looks of it everybody now seems to be moving to more thinner designs like the M1330 / SZ series.
Definitely looks nicer than the older Gateways... and the option of the 1920x1200 15.4" display... to my knowledge there are very few brands that have this! now if only they had nVidia instead of ATi (personal preference, lol)
-
-
sweet! does the HD 2400 XT have preformance like the ddr2 version of the 8600gt? If it does this will be my choice over a dell
-
I honestly dont know - I have heard that the 2400XT has better video capabilities in terms of handling high definition content (with the 2600XT) vs the 2800, which is odd. I dont know if that relates to the 8600GT though.
I'd stick with the Dell... I dont remember / dont think that Engadget said that the Gateways use LED screens... I believe that Dell's Precision M4300 (uses the older chassis of the M65s but uses newer technologies like Santa Rosa) does have the WUXGA (1920x1200) display... although dont know if that is LED backlit though)... -
Yea I don't know tho because the dells are ugly compared to these gateways in my opinion. I think I'll wait and see the performance of this video card before i decide.
-
wow, another laptop to look forward to... does anyone know if HD 2400 XT is better then 8400 GS? I have DV2500T (returning) that cannot handle 1080p content very well.
-
Hmm thats weird - the 2500T review posted here a day or two ago says it handles HD content pretty well o.0...
-
-
Oh, sorry to hear that. I thought that the 2500T would be the perfect laptop that woudl be for someone that wants multimedia but also flexibility for high definition
-
-
hmm i wouldn't get the Gemstone. I've seen it in person at a Circuit City... doesn't work that great.
I remember the HP Digital Entertainment Centers ... dont get me wrong the concept was great but it was poorly implemented.
Another thing you may want to consider is HP's new line... its an all in one... I totally forget the model name but they do have an all in one desktop with a 19" widescreen. -
Considering these are Gateways, I never would have considered these new laptops until I bought my $650 Gateway MT3705 a few months ago and saw how good the quality and performance is for basically a rock-bottom price. I'm thinking about upgrading only because I've decided that I use my notebook enough to want a really high quality laptop and besides, my wife needs one. The T-140 is looking good and could be an option with the HP 2500 and Dell m1330 I've been eyeing.
-
I just got the MT6840 for $550 at a best buy last week and i'm quite impressed by it. Good Build quality, good performance, and all that. I just wish it had better video and screen resolution, but for what I paid new, I got a great deal. Gateways seem to offer the best value today.
-
Wondering if Gateway will release a new 17"? I've talked to several owners of the NX860XL and got great reviews. I'd like to see what a new line of 17" would look like and hopefully have the Santa Rosa.
-
i'm pretty excited for this launch. hopefully configuring one to the specs i want won't be too expensive, and i can get it for college this fall. these laptops look very very sleek from the pictures. i think gateway is trying to do what dell has done with the new inspirons, only in a more attractive way.
-
I think Gateway will eventually release their 17s soon enough to stay in competition with the other manufacturers. If they manage to make the M or T, I dont remember which one is which now, but if they manage to make a laptop that is essentially a 15.4" WSXGA+ / WUXGA LED version of the M1330... man I may just ditch my T60
-
I dont know if these are santa rosa. I'm looking to get a intel core 2 T7300.
That 800 fsb is great. My dell 1520 sucked. returned it. -
Has anyone had problems with there text having shadows, red and green shadows. I thought text is supposed to be black. dell 1505 had the same thing. Oh well. maybe lcd screens are supoosed to be like that. My desktop i mac is great.
-
They have got to be Santa Rosa laptops.
-
-
These laptops are probably going to be "Designer" or more towards the high end, so they most likely will.
-
-
Holy hell.
Gateway is [finally] coming out with new models.
ATI 2400 though...hmm. Still waiting on whether or not that's anything to write home about. -
Called Gateway and they confirmed that the T-140 only comes in 1280X800 res.
They also said the "T" stands for travel and light so they will only offer intel X3100 crap integrated graphics. The only thing this has over the Dell 1420 is that it it has HDMI. I ordered a 1420 with higher resolution and with discreet Nvidia graphics card. Hopefully the rep was wrong.. but he seemed to really be confident that the T-140 will never have anything better then X3100 graphics. What a huge mistake. -
This article also seems to suggest that the 14" will be integrated graphics only:

-
cnet tested the specs on the 14" and it turns out the performance is definitely sub-par. sometimes they aren't so reliable, but if you want to see the review:
http://reviews.cnet.com/Gateway_T_6815/4505-3121_7-32508575.html?ar=o&tag=pdtl-list -
Is the t-140 going to be different than the t-6815?
-
No option for matte/ antiglare. glossy is standard. Spoke to Gateway today and they said should be on there website next Thursday.Oh well I will once again look around more.
-
I think this is pretty cool actually for those who are looking for a portable high definition laptop. The HD2400 scored better in HD decoding because of its UVD capabilities so I'm sure it can handle 1080p well. This is the first 15.4" laptop with 1080p capabilities and both blu-ray/HD-DVD options meaning movies would look absolutely amazing. The final test is to see if its gaming capabilities are up to par, it definitely won't be as good as an 8600GT but for some that is OK as it keeps price down for those looking for 1080p only.
-
This is a god send, I have been looking for a 15.4" WUXGA screen with a consumer graphics card that can handle HD and a blu-ray drive!! This is the first one available that should ring up under 2000 hopefully. 1080P Blu-Ray on a 15" screen should be amazing!
-
We dont know anything on this laptop yet. Reviews. There is a not so good review on the t series with a different model number which is for retail.
Does it get hot? fan is loud? have to wait for reviews. -
how much does it weight?
-
heres the link from gateway where they look all pretty and nice!
http://www.gateway.com/programs/tmseries/ -
Bah, the *only* thing that kills these is the WXGA resolution. Otherwise, I think its great. It copies some of Dell's elements of the M1330 (of which the backlit touch buttons were copied origionally from HP) with the Sony SZ series look with HP's decision to use HDMI. Gateway hopefully will offer high resolution options for both of these lines, and lets hope that they both are just as powerful, cool, quiet, and efficient as the hype leads us to believe ^.^
The 1.3 MP is a bit low compared to Dell's 2.0, but its still much better than most 640x480 VGA cams.
EDIT: I dont quite understand these "HotStart" buttons that are mentioned. They say it as if it is a native feature of Vista, yet this is the first time I've heard about it. Is this something that Gateway is fabricating and is probably just their own way of saying "HotKeys" and accidentally/intentionally making it appear to be a feature of Vista? -
The hotstart I think is like the dells where you can access all of your media without powering on your os. So if you want to listen to music you can just pres the music button and instantly have it play instead of starting up the entire system. Thats what I think it is at least.
-
So again thats basically meaning that gateway inadvertently / intentionally made it appear as if the HotStart buttons were a native feature in Vista. ugh >.<
-
Acaurora the 15.4" one offers 1920x1200 resolution with bluray or hd-dvd (thank god they aren't biased) as well.
-
Oh? Interesting. I think I read that somewhere but couldn't remember if it was this or the Dells... so many new laptops coming out hard to keep track of hehe
-
Now the real choice. . . HD-DVD or Blu-ray? :dons riot gear:
-
HD DVD
I watched some HD DVD on my computer of Serenity and wow... the detail is SO nice.
OH CRAP HERE COMES THE BOOTLEG POLICE!
By the light of the moon! /*poof* -
It will have slot loading dvd. Wow how retro! reviews krunker.com, cnet.
-
Cheers! -
Oh so it IS part of Vista? Ok. I didn't know.
-
I saw the new M/T series at Bestbuy. I was impressed! The material and finish looks very high end.
Screens are bright and crisp. I think these are the best looking Gateway notebooks! -
I saw the T series at Best Buy. I was unimpressed. I liked the previous Gateway designs better. It looked like some messed up cross between one of the previous Gateways and an HP Pavilion. If you like the styling on the HP Pavilions, you might like it, but I think it's just awful. Why do they have to use this stupid glossy plastic? Ugh! Ugh!
-
Their M150 and T140 versions offered online will have HDMI and slot load DVD, plus HD DVD. The M150 looks so much thinner than the previous gen.
I actually want the blue one, it's not offered at Bestbuy -
Well, I finally got to see one of these at my local Best Buy. There is quite a lot of flex on the palmrests... it isn't as great as I had anticipated =[
-
They are finally online now ! at gateway site. Have you guys ordered?
they look very nice...
