I bought my brother's old gateway m350wvn laptop from him. It's since been getting very warm and when i flipped it over (running) one of the fans was not going. Is there a way to diagnose a dying fan? I flipped it over a few minutes later and it appears that the fan was running then stopped.

My internet connection dies every once in a while, i take that to be from overheating?

basically, how do i diagnose a bad fan, is it easy to replace and where can i get a replacement (I'm deployed to iraq, so getting it to a repair center is not easy and i'm sure the warranty is over now)

    thanks
    nathan

Hi... I don't how to help you with the fan, but you can buy a notebook cooler
for this matter. I have a hot hard drive on my Sony NB... and I have been using
a cooler for nearly a year now. You can get one easily from eBay.

If you looking for an awesome cooler then the antec notebook cooler is awesome. My CPU fan doesn't even come on when I use this. Keeps my temps at about 55 degs. They are 29.00 and you can position the laptop so that your exhausts on the bottom match the intakes on the cooler.
