I took apart a laptop in order to clean it out and upgrade the processor.
I took out the default celeron 1.6ghz and put in a core duo 1.83 ghz.
I then re-assembled the laptop and started it up. I pressed F2 for bios and it recognized the processor correctly. So I rebooted let windows xp boot up on it.
It showed the startup logo with the blue things going across so I thought it was a successful upgrade. Then when it had finish with the xp boot up it didn't show the logon screen. Just a black screen with the mouse. The HDD is not doing anything. I let it sit there for 5 mins-nothing. I rebooted in safe mode-same thing, nothing.
I don't see how this could be b/c of the processor, but I'm still thinking about putting the old celeron back in to see if that works even though in order to get to the CPU I have to completely disassemble the laptop.
Any Ideas?
Thanks

do you have intructions for getting to the processor?

Unscrew the screws on the bottom, then pop off the bezel above the keyboard, pop off the keyboard. and the rest is simple.
