    Gateway nv 53 screen blacking out at startup

    I have a Gateway NV 53 that will have the screen black out on me when starting up after sitting closed for a while but when i hook it up to the TV with the HDMI cable i can see everything fine just not on the notebooks screen. any help is appreciated.

    Having the same exact problem. Does not always happen. I think it has something to do with the system trying to restore the previous state but taking way too long. One time it took 20 minutes. Also, when I push any buttons, it seems to make sounds as if everything is working properly (as if it were at the select user screen) but the screen just isn't showing anything. Might have something to do with sleep mode, but I am not sure.

    Try FN+F4 key to toggle between displays just to check if it turns on. Also is your HDMI cable connected when this happens ?

    it does it no matter if the HDMI is hooked up or not but when the HDMI is hooked up i can see the desktop on the tv but not on the computer. Fn+F4 does nothing, the only way to fix i found is to hold the power button till it shuts down and restarts.
