Hello everyone! I've had this notebook for 2 years now and just recently i did a clean install, formatted and installed a fresh windows 7 64. I'm using the gateway nvidia drivers from their site in order to avoid heat issues etc but not too long ago i noticed that after playing a few hours of World of Warcraft which is the only game i play, all of the sudden my screen goes black, crashing making me power off and power on having to go through windows safe mode and im getting really worried my hard drive might get damaged. :(

Im really getting frustrated cause even once i get back in the game after the crash, like 3 minutes or so pass and goes black again. I'm not really a pc expert, or to techy when it comes to dismounting the notebook. What i did do, was i was able to unscrew the panels on the bottom that cover the fans and did clean them to take the dust away etc. but still...im crashing. If anyone has a solution to this or experienced this before please help me. Im really stressing out on this.

I would try going to the nvidia site and downloading the most updated drivers for your card. I'm not too sure what Gateway nvidia drivers mean.

It really seems like like a video card issue. I would suggest rolling back your driver to the older driver you were using and just wait a month or so for Nvidia to come out with an update, but it seems this is the first driver so you have nothing to rollback to.

Also I think in WoW video settings there are alot of different options, maybe it didn't autodetect the new operating system and video driver. Especially check to make sure it knows you are using a 64 bit now instead of 32 bit if your old operating system was 32 bit.

I would start there and hope for the best. If that stuff doesn't work, there's more things you can try.

oh yeah, there is a freeware program called "game booster" by iobit (iobit is a reputable company so don't worry about viruses).

Supposedly it boosts performance, but I can tell next to no difference. But it has a feature that autodetects your motherboard and video drivers and tells you if there's an update. I've noticed it sometimes knows suggests different versions than microsoft update does, like it knows about some conflicts between the mobo and the driver and tells you to install an older update of drivers.

So that would be the first few things I would try.

Hey, I was thinking, Wow does some pretty advanced graphics stuff, with different shadowing and lighting. You might have a problem with just some of the features.

I would go into the WoW settings and turn off everything, the shadows, the advanced lighting and shading -everything- and play wow for a day or so on the very worst graphics. If it doesn't crash, you know the problem is a conflict with one of the settings. Then everyday or so, slowly adjust the settings back up to better graphics, and by trial and error find the setting that keeps crashing you.

If you're going to try to play with the video settings, look at this sight. Someone went through and explained them all...

Ever wondered what all your WoW video settings actually do? | Facebook

There a few sites that do really good job of explaining the settings. There are better ones than the site I pasted here, I just did a quick google search.

I haven't played WoW in years since before Windows 7 and Cataclysm.

I hope all of this helps...

Still BLACK OUTS! im going crazy >:-(

Tried drivers, lowering graphic settings to medium which i shouldnt have to and i keep crashing on Warcraft.

Very very frustrated, and i'm not to sure of opening the notebook and messing with stuff i dont know or might mess up in order to clean it.

The people at gateway say since my warranty with them has passed a year already they wont help me at all but i have best buys that i bought with them.

Im about to throw this notebook out the window..never had have this happen to me on my other notebooks.

Try a different game and if that crashes as well then you have a problem with either your driver or graphics card.

You should monitor your temperatures with HWMonitor or another tool.
