    I've heard several problems with the Gateway p-7805u including- cant game on battery, cant game when hooked up to a wall socket and that the driver/gpu has problems when gaming. What are the fixes for these problems? I'm just about to get one but this is holding me back.

    What exactly do you mean by "cant game on battery". pls be more specific and we might be able to help you. You should try updating your GPU drivers to the latest version if you haven't already.

    There are no problems when on A/C, literally zip. Gaming performance is reduced by approx 50% when PowerMizer is enabled when mobile, but that can be disabled with the Powermizer Switch which you can find with a google search. But either way, mobile gaming is pretty bad because you won't get more than at most, an hour 15min's while gaming without A/C. Even then, I've had my GPU O/C'ed and powermizer off and the power draw would be too high when on like 15-20% battery that the laptop would shut down. But if you did this with a higher end laptop, you'd get even less battery life while gaming.

    But it all depends on what kind of gaming, I've played Dota, non-intensive for gpu/cpu for 2h while mobile but playing crysis it hardly lasted an hour.

    I haven't actually got one yet andros forever, I just read about these problems online.

    I'm talking about the p-7805u anyway, llynx, which has a 2.26 Core 2 Duo and I dont plan on OC'ing the gpu so I should get over an hour and a half while gaming(right?).

    Besides Powermizer, which I had already plan on getting rid of when I install Windows 7 64-bit, have you two had any other problems with this laptop? How about anyone else who has a 7805 or similar?

    I'm still of the opinion that anyone having these issues either has a driver problem or failing hardware (which isn't real uncommon with these laptops, the QC clearly wasn't the best). If you get a good example with a good set of drivers you should never encounter an issue. Mine's also just over a year old (bought it release day, 1/4/09 IIRC)

    I see you've upgraded the CPU to x9100. Just switched my P8400 to an E8435, which supposedly has the same TDP as your processor, and seems to have something of a thermal issue with our laptop chassis. How hot (max and average) does that x9100 run? Have you tried undervolting it?

    Thank you.

    The last few days my screen freezes for about 30sec every few min while playing MW2 multiplayer. I updated the driver but it still does it. Could it be a heat issue also? my CPU blows pretty frigin hot!

    they actually dont have the same tdp because the x9100 has a tdp of 44w while your e84 has a tdp of 55w. with that being said i dont have any issue with thermals on my cpu even at full stock voltages the only difference i have with undervolting is battery lasts longer and idle temp is lower. load temps are not much higher then when i had the p8400 in.

    @GoTo
    download hwmonitor and leave it running in background as you play mw2. after a few times of the slowdown exit the game and check the max temp values. post your temps and we can see what can be done about it.

    He posted in another thread that he has the SLGEA stepping which is 44W, at least if wikipedia is correct (it's the only info I've seen on these). Assuming again that wikipedia is correct the hot one to get would be the 2.933ghz E8335 SLGEB at 35W unless of course you can still get the T9900 from HP Parts for 320 or so.

    Just got the p-7805u. Looks nice and performs really well but my gpu is idleing at 60C. Is this normal?

    GPU idling should be normally around 44-51C.

    Exactly. I'm beginning to wonder if that source might be somewhat inaccurate, especially since even Intel doesn't list the mobile Exxx family in their Ark website. Right now, the CPU is idling at 39°C, ACPI at 47°C (HMonitor), reaching temps as high as 89° and 92°C respectively, when gaming or stress testing.

    Undervolting didn't do it for me, the drop in temps was minute.

    I paid ~200 USD on mine, and customs officials fortunately ignored it, or else I'd have been stuck with a 60% import tax; with the exchange rates today even HP's T9900 would be prohibitive.

    I love Intel except in these situations where they make an OEM only part and just pretend it doesn't exist. Into the 90s does seem a little high for 44W.

    Okay I might have a little problem. Everythings working as It should on the7805u but after playing Crysis Warhead for 15 minutes MSI Afterburner read a gpu temp of 92C! It was on my lap the entire time so should I wory to much?

    EDIT: It was my lap. With it on a wooden table it only goes to 75C. I just learned that only Gateways 186.32 drivers work because when I updated them to 195.61 or something the gpu would work at half speed. At core-400, shader-800, and memory-300. It should be at 600, 1500, 800 which gateways drivers did work at. Even the 186.81 drivers didn't work properly. So a word of advice to any one who gets a p-7805u, stick with Gateway's drivers.

    Do I feel dumb right now... turns out it was Win7's fault. Set all the processor power management options to 0, never goes past 70C now. Funny thing, it wasn't an issue with the P8400. Must be some BIOS glitch.

    EDIT - Scratch that... benchmarking performance is excellent, but apps seem to be running on a Pentium... go figure.

    @the best
    are you playin it on battery because that is the max clock youll get running off battery with powermizer on. to fix this you can either plug in the laptop or turn powermizer off. you can turn powermizer off with the program provided in this thread

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=273276

    you can also further reduce your gpu temps with a bios undervolt. to do this you just read your vid bios using nvflash and edit the voltage value with nibitor and flash it back with nvflash. if you dont know how to use these programs take a look at this guide llynx typed up as its a pretty good guide.

    what temps are you reaching? to find this out download HWmonitor then run the program and leave it running and launch the game wait till it does that and then post what temperatures it shows here.

    By shuts it down do you mean the game or the computer?

    your shutting down because of massive heat problems. my suggestion to you would be to open the laptop up and get to the gpu i can almost guarantee that the cooler is most likely clogged or the fan is being slowed down by things wrapped up on the shaft of the fan.

    you could try using a can of compressed air to attempt to clear the blockage by blowing into the vents of the laptop. if you going to try this make sure you put something into the vent to keep the fan from turning because if you turn it with the compressed air at high speeds you can damage the fan. i normally use a toothpick for that. if you can manage to clear it out then you got lucky. the chances of being able to do that without opening the laptop are very slim.

    chances are your just going to move the clog to a different spot so i would just go with the complete teardown and clean method.

    well i took my computer apart down to where i can get to the fans they seem to be fine but they did have a good bit of dust and lent in there but that still did not fix my prob. i have a question this might sound stupid but i know nothing bout this. is there anyways that i could accidentally set my computer to be overclocked or something. and if so would that have any chance of causing this problem.

    i also figured out that it doesnt freeze because of the heat because it just froze on me and shut off at 63C so its a mystery to me i have no idea why it is acting like this

    I have a problem with P7805u!
    Laptop works normally. But if I run the kind of game, it completely freezes or displays a blue screen of death. I noticed that this happens only when the laptop is connected to any USB device. For example a mouse.
    It turns out, it hangs when I play the game using the mouse.
    So, if I play in DIRT2 and the mouse is disabled, the laptop does not hang. If I play in DIRT2 or in something else connected with the mouse, it hangs after a couple of minutes. Even if no mouse is connected, and the blue tooth or flash drive, then still hangs ... What do I do? :confused: :mad: :eek:
