I just upgraded to windows 7 and have been getting a very nasty audio stuttering problem.
It seems to happen when I'm doing basic tasks like web surfing. When i have itunes on playing a song and i browse the web the audio will stutter.
I ran dpc latency checker and I get this message
"Some device drivers on this machine behave bad and will probably cause drop-outs in real-time audio and/or video streams. To isolate the misbehaving driver use Device Manager and disable/re-enable various devices, one at a time. Try network and W-LAN adapters, modems, internal sound devices, USB host controllers, etc."
I get red peaks when running firefox and skype about every 20 seconds or so
This problem is driving me crazy, does anyone have any suggestions?
Btw i'm running windows 7 64-bit professional

Try powermiser switch.

Hey! I just tried it, but it doesn't seem to have stopped the stuttering program.
On the DPC latency test, i'm still getting the same message accompanied by red peaks that go up to 16000 every 5-10 seconds or so -
Just try disabling the Wireless Lan driver and check after restarting if the problem exists. Likewise try other drivers and find the culprit. I guess it could be the Wireless driver or display driver.

Tried all your suggestions, but didn't seem to work. I think i'll just clean install and try to isolate the problems one by one.
A friend of mine has the exactly same computer as I do and he doesn't have this problem, so i really have no idea what it could be, thanks for the help though -

Yep, that clean install didn't work. I think it's a problem inherently wrong with Windows 7 because my Vista worked perfectly fine. I'm going to try to downgrade to Student edition and see if that fixes the problem.
If that doesn't how does a BIOS upgrade sound? -

I just finished flashing my BIOS and there was a major problem. Do not attempt to flash your BIOS with the upgrade shown on Gateway's website because it will screw up your comp. Although it shows the file as being new, it is actually not the 9.539 that is shown at actually is a lower version than the one that comes stock with the FX.
And also, still no change with my massive audio glitching
enough of the self love/rant. -
Also, HDMI working, and some nice goodies for the speakers (SRS, dolby, etc)

thanks -
I know this question is out of the subject, but this is the only updated thread for the p-6000 laptops:
Is it possible to run 8gb (2x4) 667mhz of ram on the p-6831fx?
Does it require a bios upgrade?
And do you need a bios upgrade if you plan to replace the CPU (planning to get a x7900 965 intel core)
I havent seen anyone try it...I have a p-6831 fx and just upgraded the hard drive to a 7200rpm 500gb..I just ordered a 60GB SSD for the main drive.
Thank you very much though for the audio driver link, I installed win7 ultimate 64 and I had the HDMI problems like what you stated.
Anyways, thank you for the help and a reply to the question would be great. -
Hope this answers your question.

ok..thanks guys for the info..I figured ill just order the kingston hyper ex 4gb (2x2)..
Big problem though, I installed the x7900 extreme cpu and bios can read it. However, once windows is about to boot, I get a BSOD!!!
here's a couple of things I did but still no success:
-upgraded bios to 94.31
-cleared cmos
-switched & formatted hard drives (1 seagate, then 1 western digital)
-disabled all enables in bios
-switch ahci to compability mode in bios
-tried xp and vista
I posted this in other threads and one said that my cpu is faulty, which i think not because the bios can read it, only crashes when windows is about to boot. My last and final attempt will be to use arctic silver thermal paste (because the paste the cpu came with look cheap) because i think its overheating...then if that doesnt succeed, replace the stock ram with the kingston hyper x.
Any suggestions or answers?? Once again, thanks for the help. -
To the OP:
I've also had some audio problems in the past: when the laptop comes out of hibernation, the sound was gone. Only a reboot would 'fix' the problem.
I downloaded and installed the drivers from Gateway's website and for so far the problem seams to be fixed.
I'm running Win7 32bit though. -
Sorry to bump an older thread, but I've been getting random BSOD's (Have to power off my 6831fx)
I've traced it to the audio drives which for the last 4 months, since I got Win 7 I've had nothing but issues with the audio drivers.
I tired this driver and it doesn't work on my 6830fx, I thought the audio chip was the same?
Any ideas on a fix
