This is a little long, but it gives you and idea of what to say or how to sound like if you are interested in getting the price down on this laptop.

Here's my convo I had with Cody and Gateway:

Michael says: I was interested in getting a laptop, the one from Best Buy. But they up the price a great deal...much higher than what you guys have on your website. The suggested retail. I was hoping to come on here today and maybe get something similar for a price similar

Cody says: Are you referring to Model: P-6831FX ?

Michael says: Yes, yes I am

Cody says: I thought so The closest match would be the P-171S FX... this model has a slightly better processor and a slot load DVD burner instead of the tray drive...

Cody says: there is a bit of a wait on this model, so I should be able to get you a bit of a discount to compensate you for the wait... it is only available for pre order right now...

Cody says: First off, the estimated arrival date is 03/10/08... is that going to be ok?

Michael says: yes thats ok

Cody says: Let me ask you a few questions to see if there is anything else that you need and then I will see how much of a discount I can do on the total order.

Michael says: ok, ask away

Cody says: Is there any specific software that you need included? Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc...

Michael says: Nope.

Cody says: Cool, how many years would you like for the warranty and would you like the warranty to cover accidents. We can go up to 3 years.

Cody says: Would you like some prices?

Michael says: Yes sure, let me see some prices

Cody says: Just a one year, I will throw in the at home service if you want the $149.99 warranty.

Cody says: So you would be getting the $199.99 warranty for the $149.99 price.

Michael says: hmm...what are we looking at price wise for the system including the 3 year warranty?

Cody says: For pre orders on this one I will take $200 off the price making your total $1399.99 for the system, $149.99 for the warranty (including onsite repair) plus shipping handling and tax.

Cody says: So a total of a $250 discount and this gets you the better processor and the cool slot load DVD burner.

Michael says: how much would be the shipping?

Cody says: $49.00

Michael says: grand total price would be?

Cody says: Give me two minutes to get that for you.

Cody says: Delivered total with shipping handling and tax is $1694.92

Michael says: phew I though I got disconnected there for a second.

Cody says: Sound good?

Michael says: would I have the option to extend or add a warranty later if I decide not to get one now?

Cody says: Yes, anytime within one year from today's date... however it would be more expensive to do it that way...

Michael says: how much would that be?

Cody says: plus I can throw in the onsite repair today.

Cody says: $199.99 for the 3 year basic. $249.99 for the 3 year premium. You are getting the 3 Year Premium (Tech Support - Parts - At Home Service) today for $149.99

Cody says: Was there a certain budget that you were trying to stay within?

Michael says: yeah, I was trying to get as close to 1500 as possible

Cody says: What if I take another $50 off, making the total $1499.98... then you would have shipping and tax on top of that. Sound like a winner?

Cody says: $1641.92 would be the delivered total.

Michael says: if we can make it $1600 than we got a deal. I'll buy right now

wow good deal! i got mine for $1400 with tax but no warrenty and is the lower end model.

Did you or can you, get a quote for the P-171X FX? I'm definitely interested in what he can quote you for the P-171X FX.

 

nah I didn't check. that's basically the whole convo there...leaving out the credit check and stuff obviously. But I'm pretty sure he will give you a deal on it. Atleast 200 off and then you can work from there. He said he works 100% off comition. I'm not sure if thats with all says, but as you can see he didn't argue at all about me trying to get a lower price.

Give him a call...I did ask if I sent friends to him if he would help me out and he said definitly.

 

I got it for around $1650 with 3yr warranty and 3yr accidental damage warranty. I don't remember what the total was exactly. The only downside is that I probably won't get it until 3/11.

 

Yeah thats what I got j_226 and probably able to get it a little lower.
