Gateway® P-171X FX Edition Gone?

As you all know, I'm still waiting for my P-171X FX edition to come in, however, I don't see it on the Gateway site anymore! Not April Fools, I went to the Gateway site and I don't see the P171X-FX edition on the website! Am I just going crazy or did they take it off for some reason?

I certainly hope that they're still going to produce my lappy...

wow am I lucky. Purchased mine over the phone yesterday and today i check and their sold out. Dont worry I am sure yours is still on the way, once you have your order # Im pretty sure its already processed and being shipped.

 

Why is the P-6831FX listed with a slot-load drive when it really is a tray-load one? I hope that's a misprint as the XL FX has a tray loaded one.

 

I dont understand that either, I have never seen a single picture of an FX model with a slot load drive. Please tell me the 171x fx actually does have a slot drive. I know its just an aesthetic thing.

Ah, thank you for the info, I was getting worried about that - if they would cancel my order since it wasn't showing up anymore... at least I'm not alone in waiting for the P171X-FX edition till April 24th!

I called the order status number and the representative I spoke to told me that they're discontinued... I'm not too sure if that rep knew what she was talking about but if she's right I'm guessing that they're going to wait until July to ship out with the new chipset? (assuming Montevina comes out for the laptop)

That kinda seems far away when they should be trying to make more and at a quicker pace... weren't they making money off this laptop?

wow...thats so disappointing then like no joke i ordered it the day before they made the decision to take if off the line.

 

I just called and the rep said that basically the differences are the P172X will have two 7200rpm 160gb hard drives and 4 gigabytes of memory instead of 3.

I think I can live with that. Unless there was some other things he didn't add. Hoping for a confirmation from you tomarrow flynnaz.

 

yeah that sounds alright i guess. At least its only RAM and HDD which are both super easy to upgrade possibly running vista 64bit too? Otherwise i dont see the point of putting 4gb in that thing

 

That makes no sense at all. Why suddenly go 4gb's when you won't get the full use out of it and it's still too soon to go 64bit imo. Just a single 7200 drive would be nice though. I wonder what the new price is going to be because the 171X FX was perfect for what you get. Hopefully the changes don't drive up the price closer to the XL.

 

I was all ready to buy a P171X FX to replace my Dell 1720. Sadly even with the T9300, the gimpy 8600 GT in my dell can't play most games well at 1920x1200. I did overclock it up to 4500 3d marks and it's almost good enough. Anyway, I really hope Gateway offers cellular broadband on the P172x so i can put my internal dell card in for my sprint EVDO. I don't want to have to gut the antenna's out of the dell unless i have to.

I am real surprised they're changing it as the P171x FX was already an awesome deal for the price. Does anyone know when the new intel chipset comes out? I wonder if the P172 is gonna get that perhaps? I spoke to a rep that didn't have any info yet except to confirm that the P172x is going to replace the P171x and it should start shipping within a month. I've been searching all over the net trying to find details, pretty jazzed over the possibility of WWAN support!! (fingers crossed)

Hmmm well it's back on the page now but listed as sold out. We'll just have to wait and see.

 

Ok, here is the sinny. The P-171x fx will come with (2) 160 7200rpm hard drives instead of (1) 250gb 5400rpm hard drives, 4 gb of ram instead of 3gb of ram and Vista with SP1. The gateway rep told me they look the same. I did not get a price on it, I bet it will be about the same.

 

so thats for the XFX.is their a refresh for the SFX?

Since my shipment is supposed to be coming out April 24th, and the announcement for the new P172X FX's is supposed to be announced two weeks from now... I wonder if when I get it, it'll actually be a P172X FX...?

Just seems like 5 weeks to wait for the shipment of the P171X FX to arrive and start shipping is a bit too long... I don't think it should take that long to get a shipment out... especially if they already said that they worked out the kinks of the first shipment that went out?

 

I would call your rep, since you have waited this long, tell him/her to upgrade you to the P-172x fx, it might work, or thats what your getting anyways

 

i ordered mine on the 30th of march
i then noticed that the system had upgraded
i chatted with rep and he let me switch over to the newer model at the same price
