    Also Acer has aquired Gateway so who knows what will happen to the "brand" in the future.... but Acer is known as a pretty decent company for decent products

    i cant stand gateways customer support. its horrible. the people are indian and barely speak good english. and trying to get someone on the phone just to help is frustrating in itself because they make you enter so much information through a computer that forces you to talk to her. I HATE THAT. its horrible... never again.... never again....

    Yeah But what companys anymore can you call and get a person that speaks good english? Everytime i call i tell them i want a person thats speaks good english and i normally get one.

    Gateways reputation is pretty good on somethings and horrid on others.

    Customer service, is pretty hit or miss. Sometimes you get a knowledgeable person, but most times not.

    As to the products... with the exception of the 7811s early run they have pretty good stuff. Cant complain about the level of tech we get in these machines at the price we pay. Since the 6831 we've always had the best bang for your buck gaming rig.

    I get it in this way, that their reputation has a chance to be good or bad depending on your luck and their products are good and have been priced decently.

    So their products are recommended or unrecommended?

    Buy a product and if it doesn't break (so you don't have to fuss with Customer Service), you're all good.

    Just got my P-7805u the other day and I am loving it. Gateway makes a damned fine laptop.

    its usually like this with any company, hit or miss, they make very good budget gaming laptops though.

    QFT.

    Have a broken express card latch. Never used the express card. Now gateway wants charge $199.99 for replacement/repair if somebody thinks it's my fault that the latch broke.


    Direct gateway quote:

    "Please understand that we charge $199 for used induced damage from customers. Please note that you have to pay one-way shipping charge for making a depot repair.
    If you are ready for Depot Repair please let me know. I will do the needful."

    So I probably will not fix this as it's more trouble than it's worth for me.
