Gateway's policy states that anything may be returned within 15 days of recieving it, however i noticed a catch that mentioned any returns may be subject to a 15% restocking fee. It wasnt clear what situations the restocking fee applied to. Has anyone returned a notebook to gateway? I dont want to buy a notebook unless i can return it for any reason at all without a restocking fee. I believe dell still has its 21 day total satisfaction guarantee, but i havent purchased from them since they restaffed in India, so i dont know if they still honor that. Buy.com seems like the safest place to buy from, as they allow just about anything to be returned without a restocking fee.

I just returned a laptop to Gateway because it didn't work properly and I still had to pay The restocking fee, I argued with them on the phone for a while but the best they would do is give me contact information to Gateway corporate and tell me to "make my case".
There is a 150 dollar limit per box to the fee though, so instead of having to pay 320 dollars I had to pay 150 + 50 dollars shipping, which is still totaly ridiculous.
My advice is to stay away from Gateway, we just got our money back from them(minus the 200) and placed an order on a better Dell for about the same price tonight. -
That is aweful regarding how you were treated. There are better companies that deserve our patronage.

I would double check Buy.com return policy before you buy there. I know they have a special returns policy for certain items. Dell unitl recently never charge a restocking fee, but that has changed. As for Gateway, if you paid with a credit card I would call the credit card company and dispute the charges since they sold you a defective item. It is worth a shot anyway.
