    Hello, My names Dave I own a fx 7908u that i got from me previous job in a computer refurbishing company.

    I'm not entirely sure what happened but 2 days ago i went to play Diablo III, i got into the game and a room just fine but 5 minutes after i started playing the screen looked like it was tearing and then I had a BSOD x116. Once the computer restarted after the BSOD this flashed on my screen and does it when ever i do a restart. I've uninstalled the driver for the 260m multiple times used two seperate versions of the driver update incase one was bad from the nvidia website.

    [IMG]

    But when i enter in device manager the display driver was shut off by windows

    I've tried to recover just the operating system while retaining user data. But the screen with the "S"'s just flashes again then it loads right to windows. Any help is appreciated atm im on the laptop now using "VGAsave" i think. thanks if any additional information is needed ill be leaving this page up refreshing it every so often thanks!

    A question would be did the S show up while reloadingthe OS? As it stands that memory block while loading should be 0'd out so nothing shows up. It woudl appear, without further info, that the video memory has blown out on you. It easily could be something else as well.....................

    would it be easier for me to just upload a video of it starting up? and if the video memory did blow out on me i assume I need to replace the mother board?

    one turning my laptop on or restarting it the screen displays the following

    ->> "S" screen flashes
    ->> Windows black and white logo with F2 and F10 options
    ->> "S" screen shows and holds goes black
    ->> "S" screen comes back and holds
    ->> Windows loading screen
    ->>Loads into windows

    The screen is an ANSI one so question would also be does the BIOS display properly? The reason is that as well is an ANSI screen...............

    Were you overclocking it before it went bad? It is rare for these to go but there are almost inevitably a few that will. At least with the P79xx this is the first 260m I've head of going south....................

    Edit; A shot in the dark but in searching code 43 this was found.............

    Bad driver. I would uninstall, reboot and reinstall the video driver.

    I've uninstalled and reinstalled the most current driver for the 200m series laptop from nvidia. I've even done a full reformat i still get the ANSI screen on start up and 2x past the boot menu, now it just sits at a blank screen after windows is loading set up files for a fresh reformat. I have my windows 7 ultimate disk laying around so maybe i can run that on it to atleast be able to get it to the desktop. Still not sure if its video card issue or now a HDD issue or both now=P

    After the reformating the whole system then using my W7 Ultimate disk I'm now able to get the computer to load into windows. Now in device manage it shows that windows disabled my 260m cause its not working properly and also in device manage its stating that there is no driver for "mass storage controller" not sure what that means
