Gona go and pick up my FX in a few min...hopefully they held it for me and its the higher resolution one....wish me LUCK!!

Anyway assuming i get it...what are the first things i should do?

Do i have to update or download some drivers? I dont know anything about that stuff...and how should i remove all the junk that it comes with? Should i just delete one by one or reformat the whole laptop?

Is there anything else i should know before using?

    Thanks for the advice!

congrats on the p7805u...i suggest looking up the exact model number without opening to see if the resolution is what it is, so u dont have to return it if its not what u want. also, i would just reinstall vista 64 bit, that way everything would be clean and fresh..

Reinstall Vista 64bit? The P-7805u does not come with a os disk, also too many people on this thread are saying reinstall the os, besides being very time consuming, there is no proven gain compared to removing the unwanted bloatware, and some minor system tweaks. Save time and frustration, just unistall the things you don't want, if you like use The PC Decrapifier at http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/

I have many computers, work on them, play tons of games, have four Gateway FX laptops, and have done fresh installs on 4 of them, no diffrence between the four and the one I just used The PC Decrapifier.

only difference, after many a headache, is getting the 10 gig's back from the recovery partition. Personally I prefer it is there, worst comes to worst I know where I can go without digging up the DVD's. I made them still to have them but a restore from that partition has to be faster and no scratched or dirty disc headaches.

I now also have a 500 Gig for data storage so giving up 10 gigs is a no brainer.
