They all sort of make that hissing sound, I believe.

I bought a Targus 180w, stays quiet and doesn't get super hot like the Gateway one.

My power brick hisses but I haven't had one problem yet. If you want to get rid of the hissing problem, you need to get a power brick that has a larger draw such as the Targus 180W, which you can get from Amazon.com.

I seem to have the opposite problem as everybody else.

My factory 120W provided by Gateway doesn't make any noises at all. I upgraded to a Targus 180W and about 2 weeks after using it the sizzle noises began, now about a month later they are much louder and much more frequent.

    ***UPDATE***

Targus does not provide a warranty for their 180W Home Office AC Notebook Power Supply.

Their power supply has not been tested on the Gateway P7801u so the warranty is actually VOIDED.

If you need to RMA your Targus 180W adaptor you are out of luck, they will slam the door in your face.

I've had ny 180w for 22 months and it has held up extreemly well. It used to run my XT5000T but now stays home with the P-7805u and the 120w is my traveling or the XT's brick when required. The 2nd brick, their 1st replacement, has no hiss to it. So then, so far so good..............
