Well I went to my local Best Buy and "Complained" About having received the 1440 X 900 instead of the 1920 FX.

I stated that I was under the impression that what is on display is the machine I would be getting and it's very miss-leading to display something that you don't receive..

(They should really take the 1920 of display and replace it with the 1440 so people like me don't get pissed and have to go through all this crap..)

The manager told me it was a gateway error and pretty much I'm screwed, contact gateway and take it up with them.. she didn't want to help or give me the time of day.

So.. I said whatever, walked out and went home.

Called up gateway support, and after talking to a rep who didn't really know anything I asked for a supervisor..

Talked with him for about a hour or so (after being on hold for a good while)

and he told me that the WUXGA is the 1920 and the WXGA is 1440 (which we all already know)

So basically he said "Go back and take it up with best buy"

    go figure..

So I called up Best Buy's Corporate office and talked to one of their associates, she was real nice and real helpful, she called up all the stores looking for a WUXGA model for me.

She said she found one in the vero beach store (30 minutes from me) and they have it on hold ready to do the exchange for me.

So I thanked her and headed over there...

I got there and on the box still read "17" WXGA" .... :/

So I asked them to open it and turn it on because I want to be sure it's the 1920 before I take it home.. So they did, and it was a 1440...

I went over to their display unit and it was a 1920, so I asked the associate if he would swap it out with the 1440 and sell it to me.

The manager gave the ok and we took it off display, and they removed all their crap on it.

So after driving to west palm beach initially, then to vero... I finally managed to get the 1920 WUXGA Unit!!

    So now I am happy.

Also, this screen has the white ghosting when the screen is black, not a drastic amount, but noticeable from an angle.. the 1440 didn't have that.

But other then that it seems to be running great atm.

I asked the guy how long it was on display, he said about 2 weeks or so.. and I have a 1 yr accidental warranty anyway.

So if you want one bad enough, you can do the same thing I did..

Swapping yours for the floor model that's wrong anyways seems to be the hot ticket if you get a 1440x900 and they have a 1920x1200 floor model. Congrats.

If your saying thats wrong because you think it's "my old" laptop, it's not.

They put out the brand new 1440 that I "checked" first and returned my other one.

By wrong I mean the floor model incorrectly depicts the laptop because it has a 1920x1200 screen when most now have 1440x900. I wasn't saying it was wrong of you to swap out yours for it. Heck its a used laptop for a used laptop anyways, a lot of places have been taking the 1440x900s and putting them up as the display model when people wanted to take them back.

Actually when i first looked to buy my 7811fx the ad was incorrect stating it was 1440 screen resolution not 1900, I ended up buying a few laptops and suprised I got the 1900x1200 model - not that I care for that big I am used to 1280x1024 but When tigerdirect sent me the laptops was little suprised the Ad was wrong. Thats where I first thought I got a steal buying the 7811fx for $750

Yes, but it was "Meant" To be 1440 X 900 only, not 1920.

Even the 1920 model sais on the sticker 1440 X 900.

We know dude. This info was all over this Gateway forum long before with appropriate answers on what someone can do in that situation, and even when you kept making threads people kept giving you the answers, myself included. It's not new information, some people apparently just never look around at all or use the search function.

I hope you got 10% off...
