Vista Home Premium all latest update, but not SP1, on P6831FX notebook.

Using stopwatch, nothing fancy, in minutes and seconds.

Send from internal WD 250MB C: drive To: (test file 8,219,960 KB ISO)

Internal, separate WD 250MB, SATA to SATA 5400rpm 3:21 (Best Time)
Free Agent Pro 500GB 7200 rpm using SATA interface 5:33 (!?!)

    Reading from External/Internal To C: WD 250MB

Internal, separate WD 250MB, SATA to SATA 5400rpm 3:13
Free Agent Pro 500GB 7200 rpm using SATA interface 3:00 (Best Time)

I guess drivers need more work for the write speeds to pick up.
Anyone using the WD external SATA?

Seagate FreeAgent Pro eSATA drives are total crap (eSATA firmware).I should know, I have two of them. They are so buggy and unstable, I've resorted to running them on USB 2.0. (0 problems on USB - just sloooooowww)

Do a web search, you'll find plenty of the same complaints....

Yea, USB was the worse. How ever I never had an error, yet, transfering data on either interface or fail to mount. My 4 year old FW400 beat the SATA on writes!

Anyone using a WD or other SATA external? Good/Bad? I only paid $120 for the FAPro. I see WD and Seagate 500Gig USB externals for $80-100 when on sale.

I will say the internal drive it self is a good drive, and I haven't had any problem with ripping apart the ones I bought cheap and using the drives only as well. I suspect that the issue isn't the drive, enclosure chipset, etc. but the firmware for the eSATA. If they'd listen to the complaints and release an updated firmware with the issues fixed, it'd be one heck of a drive (especially with the 5 year warranty).
