At first i was a bit skeptical about buying a Gateway notebook especially with alot of negative comments and reviews on forums like these, however the desktops are pretty good though, my first desktop was a Gateway 133Mhz full tower system and believe it or not, it's still running today! well, with the help of the linux os of course![]()
Recently I signed up for an online degree program and i needed a laptop for both school and work, so i started shopping around for a notebook that's reliable, affordable and powerful. Battery life wasn't a big factor in my search, since i'm always closeby an ac outlet. I was looking in lines of either a toshiba, sony or a hp.
Toshiba is good, but i'm not a fan of Intel processors, AMD all the way baby!
Sony is known for quality, neat design, and displays and at first this was my desired notebook of choice...thats before I heard about the new AMD turion processor so my interest shifted from the VAIO's to the HP spec ed. lance armstrong promoted laptops.
After a day or two of research and advice from my friends at compusa, I went ahead and bought the L2005cu laptop, i love the design and the size...very compact and lightweight and the battery life was impressive with the 12 cell lion battery, i got a full 5 hrs with normal use would be longer if i turned the WLAN off. But after day one i realized there was one minor flaw, the display screen was too reflective..minor but a problem however.
This is due to the brightview lcd display which is supposed to make the colors sharper and brighter, which it does, but the glossy finish was a problem for me because i can see whats going on behind me. Most people have no complaints about this so it was a matter of preference on my part.
I returned it 3 days after purchase and got a full refund, good customer satisfaction policy.
So I was at square 1 again, with a budget of $1300 and an empty laptop case.
Until i came across this wonderful website called notebookreview.com, this is where everything became a whole lot easier. I know much more about laptops now than the average buyer just by reading the reviews and going through the forums. The gateway 7510Gx has been getting some positive reviews and i havent heard much complaints about them. The specs are perfect for what I do (audio and video editing) and the software package is better than the hp.
I went ahead and bought the 7510 from bestbuy which has it for a great price of $1249 after instant savings. The screen is bright and the graphics are sharp, the ultabright display makes dvds and games come to life.
Dedicated 128MB ATI graphics card with up to 256mb hypermemory.
1gb memory, 100gb hard drive, dvd burner and media ports, what more could you ask for?
I think gateway deserves alot more respect in the notebook market with this one.

I also just got my 7510GX. So far I love this thing. Thanks for all of the drivers and everything everyone has linked to on the forum. I can't remember who posted everything but they all have been life savers! I loaded the display volume bar, catalyst drivers, new scroll bar program, microsoft antispyware and my antivirus. The thing runs like a champ. I did run 3dmark05 and got 1546 before the cat's and got 1647 after. Very happy with the performance for the price. Also, I have been very impressed with how quiet this thing runs. I was expecting it to be fairly loud and hot and it hasn't been either. I did look at Dells for a while but to be honest the screen and 64 bit is what persuaded me towards the gateway. I will give up a little performance for a screen that looks like this one. It is absolutely gorgeous, no dead pixels, without a doubt the best screen I have seen on a lappy! So, just wanted to say thanks to the forum in general, I am very happy with my purchase!
Thanks
Ryan
Also, where is everyone getting xp64 from? Is it worth the money yet or should I wait for Vista? -

The only performance you're giving up is in the video. The Mobile Athlon 64 3700+ is one of the fastest chips existing in a notebook right now; I think it actually outperforms the fastest Pentium M in some cases.
This notebook is downright absurdly powerful. -
Pulp,
Yeah the video card is what I meant. I thought about going with the 9300 with the Go 6600 for a while. I do love this laptop and the processor is second to none. Your review did help me greatly with my decision.
Thanks
Got my 7510GX today!
