My girlfriend has a Gateway m6800 series laptop with an HD 2600 graphics card and she's having problems playing 1080p content on an external monitor 32" or larger.

I know that it's not a gamer's card. but shouldn't it be able to perform this operation? What are acceptable temperatures for this card? Hers idles around 70C.

Also, what's interesting is that her T5550 is working at full load, attempting to play 1080p content while her graphics card is only at 20%. Her bottleneck is her CPU, but why isn't the GPU being better utilized?

Its according to what program she is attempting to play the 1080 video with.

Some programs only use CPU and some have the necessary hardware acceleration and can use the GPU as well for a much better experience.

She's using VLC, which I just noticed only recently added support for GPU acceleration (nVidia only).

Sweet...do her temps seem a little high though or are they normal for this machine?

Yeah you might want to check into having her Download Media Player Classic. I think (though i cant remember for sure) that it handles 1080 a bit better than VLC.

As to her computers temps... i have no idea you never posted them ;)

if you dont mind paying a little money then i havent found anything that can beat core avc pro. this codec allowed a netbook i used to own play 720p video perfectly. thats pretty impressive for a single core atom cpu. :D

it doesnt cost much anyway (its only like $13) i dont think youll regret it either.
