i have a 7811 with two hdd drives in it, after i havnt accessed the hdd's in a bit (something around 40 mins or more) if i click on "my computer" or directly on a drive the window will open but will not show anything in it for about 20 seconds.

i was wondering how to fix this and if me having indexing off is whats causing it?

i made sure that on the power options it says "turn off hard disk after/plugged in/never"

    Thankx ^^

Hard drives are slow, just the nature of the beast.

But if you turn indexing back on (why is it off by the way?) it will help with this.

i read on one of those "tweak vista" post that turning indexing off will stop vista from organizing things in the background and would only affect the "search" function.

ill try turning it back on and see if it makes a difference.
    thnx ^^

Yeah, but a little indexing inthe background every now and again usually trumps HUGE delays when you need something.

You can always get a SSD if you want the drive to be less of a bottleneck. I never wait on anything to appear anymore. With or with out indexing i can pull up just about anything in under a second (usually so fast that i dont notice it pulling up)
