I've been using this computer to play bluray movies on my 1080p tv since it was purchased 6 months ago. It has always worked fine though about a month ago it has started to reboot when I plug the HDMI cable in. Not that big of a deal and I dealt with it. However, recently, I have encountered a new problem. I took the computer to someone else's house that has a similar model TV except it is smaller and 720p. I have used it at this house before and had no problems, but it has been a long time. By that I mean that I may have used it on that TV before I used it on my TV. There's a reason I am mentioning this. When I connected the HDMI cable, the display was smaller than it should have been. I checked the resolution and it was the proper resolution and even the TV said it was correct. I'd say that it is about 2/3 to 3/4 the size it is supposed to be. The scaling setting is not enabled nor can I find any other setting that I think would be causing this issue. Now here's why I brought up the TVs being similar. When I look at the available resolutions for the TV, it shows all the way up to 1080p, which is what my TV can do, not this one. I'm thinking that the computer is getting confused as to what display it is working with.
Anyways, no matter what resolution or setting I used, I couldn't get it to work properly. And yes, I know how to adjust picture settings on the TV. Fast forward to today when I bring it back to my house to watch a bluray and now it is doing the same problem on my tv. I have the resolution set to 1080p, the tv says it is receiving 1080p input and the display is about 2/3 to 3/4 the size it is supposed to be. I thought maybe it was the newest graphics driver but I was pretty sure I d/led the driver BEFORE it last worked. To be sure, I d/led and installed the previous driver. Same problem.
I'm beginning to think it's a hardware issue. I'm a little reluctant to send this computer back for repairs because they might replace the mistaken core i5 with the proper core i3.![]()
Is there any way to reset the graphics settings back to factory default? Or can I delete all records of connected devices and start from scratch if that has anything to do with the issue? I remember going through this before on a different computer, trying to get it to forget a monitor that I had plugged in and I could never figure it out.
Any suggestions?
