    Hello,

Is there a way to enable video output during boot on HDMI or VGA on my 7811fx? Currently the external output is turned on only after OS start-up when gpu driver is installed.

I don't think HDMI is on during startup but I do know if you have the VGA connected with ext. and display setup it should boot up and show on both screens. I do recall some gateway if I am remember the right laptop will automaticallly use both screens on startup unless it is plugged in later after bootup. Oh I remember now it was my Dell 1525 that has both SVGA, VGA, HMDI that when a ext lcd is connected the ext and laptop and startup both screens will come on and work as one. But only way to know for sure you will have to connect a ext VGA monitor to your VGA out on your gateway when the laptop is off and then startup the laptop with the ext on as well and see if the screen will respond when starting up.

It does not work even with VGA. With my former laptop (Dell) it worked without problems. It is really annoying, when I need to choose a different option from grub boot menu.

Do you need the ext display right away to go or is there some kinda time restraint?

I need the ext right away, so I can choose an option from the boot menu, without going on my knees and opening the lid of my laptop.
Isn't there any solution for this?

Really hmm how far is the laptop from you then or what kinda setup do you have? Unless you have docking port of which some laptop use and have this is the only way to turn on the monitor but what your describing is a odd setup your doing? And most will not turn a monitor on if there is no docking port to power up the ext display that I know of unless someone else says otherwise. Sounds like you have a ext display and usb keyboard/mouse setup from the reads of what your saying. That would require some kinda docking port of which I know only Dell and HP makes with some of their laptops but for a full ext display to switch on the same time you power your laptop would be if you had a connection to the VGA port with the laptop on and that should power on the ext display. But as mention before I will have to test a ext display and power on my laptop at the same time to see if it doesn't power on the ext display at the same time my laptop comes on.

Yes, I have my laptop under the desk, with connected keyboard, mouse etc.
I use it as a desktop now.
I have this laptop for 2 years and even when the monitor (connected on VGA) is turned on at the same time as the laptop , there is no output on the ext during boot.

I think for what you trying to do does require a dock station that would turn on the monitor with it's own separate power switch and what your trying to do now with your only option if that is would be to have the lcd screen in the open position to use the ext display.
