Okay, here's the deal. I bought this laptop from Best Buy(which I know so many people did) a couple years ago. I've had a myriad of hardware problems, including the mic jack deciding not to work for a few months, and a fan deciding to just stop working, along with a USB port just not working at all. However, my HDMI port was just fine.

I used a Rocketfish HDMI cable which we bought a long time ago at Best Buy to watch videos on my 46" Vizio LCD. The first few times I used the cable, things went smoothly. I figured I'd have to install drivers and stuff for the cable or something, and I didn't. As soon as I plugged it in, the screen popped up on the TV.

Unfortunately, after the third time I used the cable, I pulled it out, and the metal cap thing on the end came off. I used rubber handled pliers to take it out, but the wires on the cable were all screwed up. I threw the cable away and bought a new one the next day. I tried to plug the new one into my laptop, and now the laptop doesn't show up. I can't do anything to get the computer to recognize the TV or the HDMI cable.

I guess I'm in need of some help. What should I do?

Short answer; Buy WDTV box for $90 to play your media files off USB drive.

You used a pair of pliers? I think I would have brought it all back to BB and let the geek babe pull it out.

If the jack needs to be replaced your looking at some bucks unless you do the work. You might think about the short answer?

Wow you've had one hell of a problem (more like problems) with your laptop. Luckily my graphics card was broken right from the beginning so I used the warranty service. I bet you won't be buying from Gateway or other budget brands any more :)
