Two days ago a friend asked me to look at her m5310 emachine notebook. When attempting to dial into the internet she was getting an error 633. After some standard trouble shooting I decided to backup her files and wipe windows. After the reinstall the same problem occured - error 633.
I tested her dialup account on my machine to verify the account was okay - it worked.
After the OS reinstalled failed I figured the problem must be a hardware problem. Today she bought a external usb modem but that is now giving error 775!
Emachine's support page is sparse. I tried downloading the latest chipset but there is no installer in the download nor are there instructions to manually load the chipset driver. There is no bios.
I dont know what to make of this... is the motherboard bad? On a side note I hit her exhaust vent with some compressed air and a huge dust bunny jumped out at me. The system was getting very warm... I just dont understand why everything else on the notebook is working.
Perplexed...
